Recommend a good chair for $350?

Greetings to all.

Can anyone recommend a nice solid chair for $350?

I'm not looking for anything fancy. Height adjustment is about the only thing that I need, assuming the chair is comfy and has proper support.

My only real condition is that I'm done buying crap from somewhere like Staples. I've been through six different chairs in the past two months from them, the last was the most expensive chair they had that turned out to be a bait-and-switch which was literally held together with hot glue (it was a "Serta" branded chair that was actually made by a Chinese knock-off company). All the rest had various issues with the piston or alignment issues with the mechanism being off axis.

So I'm wondering what you guys recommend. I know the ideal chair is an Aeon or Embody, but I don't really have $1600 to throw around at chairs right now. I'm just looking for something to, uh, sit in for now- I was hoping to buy a nice chair later for Christmas this year.

Sorry. No answers here then. The Embody has been worth every penny to my backside. Especially if you spend long hours at the computer (or mixing desk). I know it's not cheap. But damn if it's not worth it. One of the best pieces of studio furniture/equipment ever.

Do yourself a favor and contact Steve at Crown Seating: info@crownseating.com - https://www.crownseating.com/
He has the most amazing chairs that are perfect for the long hours we put in, and is a GREAT guy to boot. They do not cost as much as a Herman Miller chair but are fantastic. Mention that you are a recording studio person, too.

I found a couple used Herman Miller Chairs for that price in Craigslist. There are a bunch of offices and used furniture stores that sell some great chairs for pretty cheap.

Thank you all for the replies.

After digging through the 'net and visiting nearly every furniture store in town, I've basically come to the conclusion that decent chairs start at $450 and go up from there.

I guess people just don't make stuff the way they used to- I remember paying $150 for a decent computer chair in 1998 and it lasted me close to ten years before the arm rests started to go.

Anyways, long story short- I've ordered a Herman Miller Embody. Couldn't justify wasting money on anything else, and given the warranty on them you can't really go wrong. Not exactly what I wanted to spend at this very instant, but as I've quickly learned a good chair is pretty damned important if you want to work for 10 hours a day.

You will not regret it. You can micro adjust everything. Get that back set up so that it just gently floats when you lean back. And the way they made it... no padding whatsoever, yet the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in. Has to be in the design of the plastic mesh that supports/is the seat, and the design of the back support.

Another one that's great for long haul computer work, but not nearly as comfortable as the Embody, is the KneelSit chair. Second only to the Embody in keeping your backside pain free for long periods of sitting at a computer.
