Nuendo 5.5 Monitoring Problem

I've been living with this problem for a couple months since I've gotten Nuendo but figure I need to figure this out.

I record voice over, which often needs a lot of punch ins. I'll set my punch in points, find a suitable location before the punch in, hit play and let it go. This is where the problem hits. The person on the mic can hear the playback, but can't hear themselves speaking until AFTER the punch in point. Basically, whenever I hit Play, the input source on that track can't be heard. If I press the Monitor button while playing, I can hear the person on mic, but not the playback.

So let's say I only have one track. Is it possible for the input source to be heard while that track is playing?

It's pretty frustrating for some talent, as they like to speak along with themselves before the punch in (and actually hear both).

Hope that makes sense.

I've seen this done with Protools without a problem. I've dug through Nuendo's manual and can't find a thing on this.

So what magic button do I press in Preferences that fixes this. Must have missed it...

Thanks

My Recordings/Credits

Have you set up the Control Room properly?
It sounds as if this needs to be done - and that is a complex issue.

CHeck your manual on this, as there are so many ways to tweak that puppy but you can effectively create separate feeds to the talent for this sort of thing

I have it set up, but yeah, maybe not correctly or appropriately for what I need.

I'll dig into that some more and see if an answer is there.

Thanks

Solved the problem in the control room. Not sure if it's the 'right way' but it'll do. Thanks!

In preferences if you set it up to TAPE MACHINE STYLE monitoring it will do the same thing without even using the Control Room Feature

Preferences/ VST/Auto Monitoring/Tape Machine Style

Yeah, I had been using the Tape Machine option from the get-go. But maybe something I had done in the Control Room negated or altered its behavior?

Anyhow, good to go now
