Hey everyone,
I have been playing around with TouchOSC for a few days, and I absolutely love it!
I would love to start making my own layouts, however I have come to a road block....
I cant figure out what the OSC names are for all of the various elements in Logic.
For example, if I created 12 faders in the TouchOSC Editor, what would I code them to enable them to work with faders 1-12 of Logic?
Is there a master list of these codes available some where?
Or has anyone created a list they would be willing to share?
I appreciate your help!

| What goes where
Hello
I too would like to know if there is a resource showing how to assign TouchOSC to Logic. I have used the template that came with TouchOSC (which is quite good), but find i would rather have a different arrangement of the components.
Anyone out there with the info? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Krzysztof

Hi, did u ever figure out how to program your custom templates in Logic? I'm trying to add my own page to the LogicPad template but i can't figure out how to assign the controls. Apparently with the latest logic update you don't need to use Osculator so I'm stumped on how this works.

I used to use TouchOSC for controlling Logic, especially when doing remote things like recording guitar/vocals etc. I have this strange thing going on that there is terrible latency when using my "new" iPad3, same goes for the iPhone4. On the other hand when I use the iPad1 everything is fine. Very strange. Also in the Logic template the rewind and forward button don't work, making it rather useless to use at the moment. I'm lucky to have a MacBook Air, I use it with screen sharing so I can control Logic from a distance.

It's made for Logic.

I have TouchOsc, but was disappointed with the latency.
I use V-control Pro, it comes with it's own wireless communication app, I've found it quite responsive.
Haven't checked out the Delora app.

It's made for Logic. | It seems to be exactly the same thing but with a different GUI.
What makes it better to you ?

I bought Touch Osc a while ago, but the latency and GUI are quite disappointing.
V-Control Pro is much better than Touch Osc. There's a free version with the basics so you can try it out.

No channel by channel page, no EQ page, smaller buttons and above all don't store where you are if you switching app (and, of course, 10x more expensive...)
The only things I find better are : scrolling track by track and the colors...
The air-display feature is really promising but with almost unusable latency and makes big spikes on the CPU...

It has less latency. The GUI is much easy on the eye. You don't need a single channel window as you've got the plug-in window that shows you all the plug-ins at a given channel and lets you easily edit them as well as the instrument window which let's you do the same with instruments. There's also the V-Window that lets you select any Logic window like a plug-in for example and let's you edit it on the iPad just like if you were touching the plug-in on your Mac screen. The Mute, solo and transport features are also better. It's not all perfect but it's a couple of steps ahead.
I liked Touch Osc when it came out, but there's clearly more work put into V-Control Pro.

What makes it better to you ? | I don't need to create any templates, it will display the knobs and thier descriptions for the loaded instrument or effect that you select in LPTouch.
Here's a video. LPTouch for Logic (click on full screen) - YouTube
Sorry about the bad quality of the video in full screen mode. I'm looking into the correct dimensions for a better quality video, but you'll get the idea of what LPTouch can do.
Remember, this is for Logic only.

From the LPTouch website :
"lpTouch works with the built-in “TouchOSC” control surface driver provided by Apple as part of your Logic installation." Here
And you don't need to create any template in TouchOSC to control Logic...
On the main page of the Hexler's website here at the bottom you have a nice zip file called "touchosc-default-layouts.zip"
Once downloaded, go here and read... |

Open the LogicPad layout in TouchOSC editor and make the changes you want. But, If you use MIDI with TouchOSC, you have to use the app TouchOSC bridge wich is not necessary if you use the default layout/template as it uses only OSC protocol to communicate with Logic.
Off Topic : I've just received your book "Scoring with Logic" last week : Congratulations ! Really well done and useful.

My point is for LPTouch no template had to be create or loaded, you just connect and it works.
If you watch the video that I did, the knobs and thier descriptions are loaded and displayed per individual instrument and effect.
If that template that you pointed out on Hexler's site can do that then that's great. We both win.
I'm only using Logic so for me LPTouch was a great choice.
I noticed at the link you provided at Hexler's site here, I see the following text: Note: It is not possible at this time to use customized Layouts or to learn OSC commands. However, authorized 3rd party developers can create Logic CS plug-ins which can use OSC-based communication.
What does that mean?

Thanks for the advice and the kind words about the book. As I say, these days it is all bout cc11 Expression with most libraries so the default layout isa non-starter.
I just found out however bout a Yamaha app called Faders that may be just what I am looking for.

What does that mean? | Look at the screenshots at the bottom of the page linked : first row, 6 and 7 column are of the Logic Layout. The names are displayed.
As the two apps are using the same source, I think they just display the name given by the developer of the plug-in.
I saw you're pretty deep in the environment, maybe you know Max/MSP ? There is the vst~ object that gives all the names of the all the parameters available of a plug-in. I've checked some plug-ins that I have and that's indeed the same names.
And, just for information, we're not running a race and there's nothing to win...
We just want to use the most efficient tools. |

By default, the template doesn't send any MIDI info.

OK, Yamaha Faders does EXACTLY what I need it to do and I set it up in 10 minutes.

From my experience much more responsive than TouchOSC, the free version doesn't contain all of the features.

But I have to say the support is outstanding. Few months ago, P. Neyrinck himself has spent more than one hour on Skype with me to try to resolve a problem I had.
Never seen that before from any developer... |

Thanks for Hexler for being honest and posting this but this is the main reason I didn't purchase TouchOSC. The NOTE: wasn't specific enough to mention what exactly what it means. Quote:

, it's quite a blast with the Macros I've created.
I still have some others that I'm testing out that's just making The Environment more interesting. |

What I still don't understand why TouchOSC is very responsive on iPad1 while on iPad it has terrible latency...
