Thread Starter | Best superior 2.0 libraries for metal?
I have Superior Drummer but I'm looking to expand my kit sounds. The snare and kick are way overused and pretty lacking...
Toontrack New York Studios Vol.2 SDX
Toontrack Custom & Vintage SDX
Toontrack Music City USA SDX
Toontrack The Metal Foundry SDX
I am open to buying two of these. I just can't decide which.
Metal Foundry seems the obvious choice but I've heard a fair few people with other preferences and quite a large number of people say it's only really good for cymbals! I imagine it is cymbals galore and am tempted to pick it up for that..
C+V sounds appealing to me but not for metal, however I am feeling the need for some jazzy samples. Could one of the other packs cover that and also help me in heavier areas, though? Kill two birds with one stone.
I've looked on the site and checked the samples but you can't always tell much from that I find. Better to talk to people.
It seems to me MF is the obvious choice for metal and CV for jazz..but I am intrigued Music City particularly. What can I expect from these other libraries?

If you can find(its discontinued)
Evil Drums by Joe Baresi is my favorite.
Metal Foundry and C&V are both very nice as well.
With the sales going on with them I'd grab them all ;-)
Those 3 would be my recommendations.

I'd say that I mostly use Metal Foundry when I grab Superior Drummer for recording (when not using any other libraries, that is). It's not only for Metal, but fits nicely in contemporary rock songs etc as well. I don't think only the cymbals are nice but all the drums serve their purpose. The Sonor Snares are killing. But as already mentioned - Joe Barresis Evil Drums are also very sweet, and as for Music Citu USA - I think they can be very "clean". The Hats and cymbals are truly one of a kind in that library.
edit: btw - I haven't heard the fairly new "Roots" library, but as always this should also be extremely good, cover the Jazz area, and possibly also heavier things. C&V feels more vintage which could suit jazz and old pop/rock (but not that much metal).

get the metal machine EZX expansion, andy sneap recorded and processed drums that sound absolutely fantastic. the standard avatar kit is pretty useful too although the kicks seem to need a bit of work. the room sounds for avatar are stunning, and the snares and toms work great work for anything rock/metal.
the metal foundry is kind of weird sounding, it will work if you are going for a really unique kind of sound but the metal machine pack will fit to WAY more stuff.

Sales? I don't see any sales :(
Thanks guys.
Metal Machine - I looked into that when it first came out. Fantastic sound indeed, but I don't like how the EZXs are processed. I'd prefer to start with raw(er) samples which is what I understand SDXs to be?
Weird is a good word for metal foundry...
I'm tempted to MF+Music City. If there's a sale maybe C+V too...hmm. If I only got MF and Music City, do you think that could cover jazzy stuff ok?

Wouldn't recommend C&V for metal, but it is absolutely awesome and different to almost everything else. With metal machine, the avatar kits and sound city you'll have WAY more options than you'd need. Enjoy.

So I just grabbed CV, MF, and MC lol. Could not resist at that price, three for the price I would've paid for one on the Toontrack site. Minus shipping - No download which is a shame as I already have all the discs (they come with Superior) so only need the keys..but can't complain at that price!
I'd usually say this is 100% a scam but I've found nothing but legit reviews, so fingers crossed!

I bought Roots 1 & 2 last month(I have all of the others) from them, I was a bit skeptical at 1st but they are the real deal.
Also got a great deal on FG-X from them.

Great, thanks for the heads up! This will fill up my hard drive perfectly..haha
Very excited to receive these. Far more samples than I'll ever need for sure.
Just wondering why Music City commands the same price for such a little number of kit pieces, any idea?

Music City just sounds f**ing amazing, great library for all sorts of Music, I never noticed the size, it's IMO 1 of the best Toontrack offerings ;-)

| Produced by Chuck Ainlay
Drumsticks, brushes, wire brushes, and hands kits.
Sizewise (GB), the Music City is about the same size as C&V and the NY Legacy Vol. 2 libraries.

I've never really liked any SD libraries for metal, djent killed it for me. I think your best bet would be blending metal foundry and slate kicks and snares.

I generally use SD full kit + ssd for kicks and snares blending mode |

Yeah..djent killed it for me too. I like a lot of the more original bands in that music but I'm far too used to the kit sounds now. That's why I'm hoping to find something different here |
