Thread Starter | Waves Mercury talk
Hi partners ....i just upgraded to mercury ....
Of course (like many of us) i don't use and need all those pliugins , but buying what i need seperatly whould have been quite juts few hundred under ....
First it's really a shame that we don't get ssl bundle or at least a Mega bundle ( like mercury price) where you choose your components !
Anyway , great deals actually .....now i'm just wondering all those signature stuff , are they actually used by real pros ? real mixer input would be welcomed ....they sound good , sometime surprisng (in sonic direction that i wouldn't have thought about) ....
Also we can use this thread for wish/request component we would love to see next (hope waves will see it !)
Some i would love from them :
DBX 160
Dimension D (roland)
Some more of CLA comps (more than only UA comp in its racks )
Studer Tape
Some more m/s processing
An updated metering/analysis suite (gognio, spectrum...ect)
More consoles in NLS

i wish for AAX native support before the end of the year. I don't care much for emulations. I love a lot of Waves original plug ins and really wish they would redesign the UI of everything in the Gold bundle. They are all very nice sounding but i feel some could look prettier. Over all that doesn't change the fact that I like them. My favorite plugin in right now is H-Delay and I use it on every mix, mainly for weird over dub effects on my rap.
on a final note i think waves should have a final bundle with every plug in and just offer maybe a $200 discount to what the cost is for mercury+kings+ssl, just an idea.

Go through one of the boutique dealers. We have two that are mentioned on GS many times in regards to buying waves plugs. You will get the discount/promotional prices and better.

More consoles in NLS | I don't believe the Pros actually use their signature plugins. The signature plugins are supposed to emulate the sound of several different pieces of gear that they use all wrapped up into one plugins with a few knobs.
The Pros will use the gear those plugins are based off of. Using those plugins would actually limit their flexibility by giving them 4-5 knobs instead of 4-5 pieces of gear with several knobs.
I am not a big fan of the "all-in-one guitar" plugins or drums or bass or anything else like that. The Kramer Master Tape, CLA classic compressors and things like that are cool, though.

Is the SSL bundle not part of Mercury? Odd. License issue I guess?
Having owned a couple Drawmer compressors early nineties I'd love emulated plugins of those!

It just works. It's not about the emulation, it's about "does the plug-in do the job." Quote:

That's the type of thing that I meant by pros not using the plugins.
Yes, it is all about "does it do the job."

IS the bomb.
I found I started mixing in new ways and feel very positive about the results with waves mercury. I love it. It's probably the best money i've spent on plugins.

The signature series is not the same as the recreations he mentioned. The signature series is for people who don't know what it's doing and how to achieve that with less CPU.
...however, the recreations are the opposite, IMO. I've sat with my old Urie La3a as hardware insert and the CLA3a...they did very well. While I wouldn't sell my original, I'm not sure I would seek out and buy one now. I reserve it now for the lead vocals or bass--use the plugs anywhere else I'd have used the 3a.
For me...API, CLA, JJP bundles are king. Add to that the TransX stuff...and occasionally the restoration stuff has save my butt when home recordists were, umm--when "home" gets into the tracks.

But my favourite EQ from waves is H-Eq !!

Most of the time the signature series plugs seem to be used to cut down on workflow issues or time. I use the CLA Comps on quite a few sources even though I have an 1176 here. It saves time and if you have a lot of work to do - time is money.

Some people have talked about the SSL not being included.
When I upgraded to Mercury I bought a licence for Mercury+Studio Classics Collection so I'm covered for all the products apart from Kings Microphones etc.

i prefer anyway my duende ... | You're the first person I've heard that prefers Duende over Waves or UAD. I would assume Duende would make the best but I never hear anything about them. How do you rate them on a scale of 1-10?

Duende are simply my desert island !!
smooth , musical , accurate , lite on cpu ...easy gui ....a winner ...
I think waves have a deal with ssl and so they don't include it ....that's why now they give funny names to their emulations ....

I have Mercury, API bundle, and SSL bundles, and they are the only
3rd party plugins i have installed.
I havent found anything i cannot do with these bundles, and an occasional
Cubase plugin like Magneto, Quadrafuzz, etc..
Waves is friggin awesome stuff.

In addition to SSL, Studio Classics also includes the API and V-Series bundles. The good thing is that you can have all of them under one capped ($200/year) "Mercury+Studio Classics" WUP fee as opposed to charging a separate WUP for each. Initially, Mercury is a pricey buy-in, but since they've capped the WUP fees it's turned out to be pretty nice since they've been making good on regularly adding new plugs.

If Waves had a good reverb (think ValhallaRoom / UAD EMT 140 / Lexicon) and modulation plugin (think UAD Dimension-D), I would have been sold on the Mercury bundle as a one-stop solution.
