Macbook (13" black model) anyone using it for music?

Im thinking of upgrading my laptop from a G4 15 powerbook 1.25 to one of the new macbooks, specifically the 13" black one. On paper the Macbooks seem almost the same as the macbook pros other than the inability to upgrade to a 7200 HD. Since my G5 will remain my main audio computer, is there any reason to spend the extra cash on the macbook pro rather than just getting the regular macbook?

Only if you plan to do video editing, IMO. The integrated video of the MacBook will not allow it to run things like Final Cut Pro (it will run Express though).

I believe you can definitely upgrade the HD on the regular Macbook though. I'm not aware of any limitations there.

I just got my black one earlier this week and I couldn't be happier with it.

Good luck!

great to hear! Can I ask what software you use? I use Logic almost exclusively, so im not too worried about third party plugins not being ready yet. This computer will be mostly for composing on the road.

The macbook pro has the 256mb XRadeon 1600. Macbook has
a 64mb Intel 950 processor. Tnjazz, is it the small amount
of memory that makes FCP struggle on a Macbook?
FCP should still work but you can't do major work with it right?
I would wait for the desktops and see what
they will offer. I would put the 'extra cash' into that.
