Mbox Pro 3 & white noise?

I'm using the MBox Pro 3 to record singing (and a Korg SV1) the issue i'm having is when i turn the headphones up there is kind of a very audible white noise, static like. I cannot figure out if this is normal or if it's something i have setup wrong....

I tried:

Quitting my DAW (logic pro 9) - nothing
Quitting the MBox Pro 3 software - nothing

The issue must be linked to my microphone as when i turn the gain all way up the static noise becomes much more audible and there is a big leap in difference when it's just been turned up all the way

Help?

Can someone also explain this...

If i can sing through the mic & play through the piano plugged into the Korg and hear everything out of the headphones and main stereo out, doesn't this clash with Logic Pro when i create a mic and piano track to record?

Am i missing something crucial here?

I seem to be on a roll. So i figure out how to differentiate between the Mbox Pro sound and the Logic Pro sound - Software monitoring in the settings of Logic Pro. Once this is on all i can hear is the mic and korg, assuming they are both record enabled. BUT - what is the right process. If i want to record myself singing and playing do i want to hear what is coming from Logic or the MBox. My instinct tells me Logic.

Sorry to confuse the thread!

That is a known problem with the MboxPro.

Avid said they're working on a fix, but has been quiet about it for a while now.

Only thing you can do is power off and on, more than once if necessary. And make sure you have the latest software updates, that helps, too.

There's no right or wrong. I prefer direct monitoring over software monitoring for zero-latency. But the latter is useful if you want to monitor with plug-ins on the signal.

If you wanna use software monitoring in Logic, just mute the hardware inputs on the Mbox mixer software.

i haven't run across this problem yet, however i do have huge latency issues when using the mbox pro 3 in logic pro 9 with a 2011 13" macbook pro on snow leopard. may i ask what systems you guys are running and what kind of performance you are getting?

Not having any latency issues just this nasty static noise and having to push the mic to the max, i'm struggling to get the mic to where i want it for male barritone male vocals...

Other than the described headphone-out niggles, my MB3P works fine.

I have the buffer at 128 samples in Cubase 5.5.3 on my '09 MacPro, it can handle that without problems. On my '07 iMac I need to up the buffer to 256.

Due to problems of the same kind it seems that quality control of Mbox line is not great.

Could you tell me if you have an audible noise coming from one of the mic pre-amps when you crank them up the whole way. I have abou -50db of audible white noise....

The guys who i purchased it off are telling me that this is normal and whilst i accept some feedback can occur this seems too loud?

Sorry Emanon but Mbox3 and Logic9 seems to be a "no-match", AFAIK. I tried everything but finally had to go with an old mbox2. No problem there! Works perfectly with Logic 9.

Now I'm happy so say I'm making music. I have a new friend...RME UFX

So you had similar issues?

They are trying to make me believe that -50db is a normal amount of static noise from the mic preamps.

It was sent back to avid with no fault found but it was not tested with Logic, just PT. They claim that if it is the preamps the DAW would make no difference to this static, i'm not sold!

Well, kinda... I had more of a white noise as soon as I fired up my Mbox3/Logic-combo. And it as no background noise either. Nothing subtle about it at all. It was screaming... Worked flawlessly with Pro tools though
