So I'm buying a new MBP, got a couple of questions for you slutz. Is it worth getting the new quad core for use with Pro Tools .etc? I'm thinking i7 dual core @ 2.8 should do? Is it worth upgrading to a 7200rpm drive? I had a 5400 in my old MB and I didn't notice any drastic issues however I'm running Superior Drummer now and other large samplers :s And is there anywhere particular in Aus where I could get one extra cheap? Cheers! |

I'd suggest going with the SSD instead of a 7200 rpm drive, even. It will improve the responsiveness of everything. Then add your external storage via firewire. I'd certainly get the fastest system you can justify up front, you can't upgrade the cpu later. Memory, hd for ssd swap, etc can happen later as you need it.

Should a get a large SSD or get something big enough for the system + extra space if needed and rely on external firewire drives? Also, I'm actually not sure about the CPU's as I know there are issues with quad-core's and some software. Not sure how it goes in the audio world, however! Thanks for the reply though!
