replace the hits in a stereo drum loop with drumagog

Is it possible to replace the hits in a stereo drum loop with drumagog? I have some old school breaks, no individual tracks

I don't use Drumagog, but I understand it has threshold settings that may also be frequency dependant.

Your best bet is trying to use those to single out the kick and see how accurate it is. Snare will be harder.

Perhaps you would be able to EQ the loops into several different files first, favouring kick/snare, and run those into seperate Gogs.

I think you'd be best off just practicing mapping MIDI by listenting. Shouldn't take long before you can fill out the kick/snare of a 2 bar break in seconds - adding detail in a minute or two.

If you're overlaying the break and just looking to fatten up the kick/snare, just do this and roll of the low end. Maybe program some hats too.

It's not going to take much longer because even if you can do this with Drumagog, you are going to need to adjust the settings for each break depending on frequencys, volumes etc.

With Drumagog, you can also just automate a send from the original track to only send on the snare hit or kick or whatever, to an instance of Drumagog on another channel or bus. Takes a little time, but much more accurate than trying to pick out frequencies.

Drumagog I don't think will replace the audio, but create new audio based on the old audio's 'triggers'.

So that mean you will have to mix your original back in unless you don't mind making completely new drum track from your source.

It's possible. The snare and kick hits should be obvious, so just make a duplicate track and then slice up the loop at the transient (you could use Beat Detective if in PT). Then drag the snare and kick onto new tracks and throw drumagog on there or replace manually.

Kenny Gioia did a tutorial on this exact thing in one of his PT videos:

Do it manually. How long is this loop? Tab to transient - or whatever cubase calls it - paste sample in parallel track. Repeat. For a 4 bar loop, should take a minute tops. Drumagog is overkill.

Doesn't matter what DAW you use...the principal still applies. Just slice up the loop manually.
