Cassette tape saturation plug in??

Anyone know if there is a good tape saturation plug in that can get some real effect type sounds instead of just subtle tape compression? Looking for a real trashy cassette sound and/or vhs sound. Thanks.

I don't know of any but for $25,you could get the real thing(casette deck or vhs) and run your track through those.
I forget who(pro engineer) that said,if you want the sound of a real bell, record a real bell.
Or something to that effect.

I know what you mean man craig silvey ran some of the portisheads tracks to cassette and back, the UAD ATR102 has a 3.5 setting when driven hard sounds gooood but the best solution I've found is slam it to a cassette and record back!

If you tweak this one enough, it can sound similar to a cassette.

I had an album that I used to listen to on tape (the tape was pretty worn out).
When I found the album on CD, i was dissapointed because it was very early 90ies sounding, with too much high and not too much low end.
I recreated the trashy tape sound with plenty of massey tapehead and some highshelving (-5 dB or so, maybe even more)

For real trashy VHS quality you can warble with pitch modulation

The UAD Studer has a Cassete Deck preset. However I've never tried that particular preset so I can't vouch for the how close it gets.

Nobody else knows, but since you were good enough to mention it, this thread gets to hear first. The demo's already up and it's actually already out right now, I just didn't announce it. It's a Mac Audio Unit (hope you can run 'em but I know that doesn't work for everybody)

Here's the demo- http://www.jinxtigr.com/f/IronOxide2Demo.dmg just crush the tape speeds down to really low, and increase the lows tape speed if you want to trap in some of the bass- tape low end doesn't really scale with cassette- not as if you had 1/4" running at 1.5 ips. You want to be claiming the low end is more like 7-15 ips if you're trying to imitate a cassette because the tape size is so much smaller.

No 'mix' control to dial in that Goldilocks setting.
