OCZ Octane SSD drive for new MBP 2.2?

I'm about to order a new 15" MBP 2.2 ghz 4-core in which I'm going to replace the default 5400 rpm hd with an SSD 256 gb drive.
I've been recommended buying the OCZ Octane SSD drive, because it uses an Indilinx controller - and because it's SATA III (which the new mpb support)
I'll be using the MBP for Mainstage in live shows.

Can anyone confirm this recommendation - or the opposite...?

Thanks a lot!

Mads

Great. You'll love the change. Make sure you backup your data often. Not much is known about livespan of these new disks.

Ok, thanks.
So this disk should work perfectly?

"These new disks" - is that ssd disks in general or SATA III?
Would I be better off buying the OCZ Octane 2 which is SATA II?

Yes that's SSD's in general. Lots of manufacturer changes have been made. From 2 years ago till now.

You should stay with SATA600. A current fast SSD will do around 500 mb/s. Effectively fill the complete buss all by itself. Older SSD's were held back simply by SATA300. And this allso happened with SATA150.

So I expect a new busdesign in the autumn. Because systems with two SSD's will be more common then. And the buss is holding down a system with two SSD's. (2x 600mb/s=1200 mb/s).

Enjoy.

I got thrown a little off there...
Does that mean that the OCZ Octane Sata III is a no go...?

No. As far as I know you made a great choice.

SATAI=SATA150
SATAII=SATA300
SATAIII=SATA600. You buy a SSD with a SATA3 interface. Meaning It can do 600mb/s max.

That laptop will be as fast as lightning.

Cool.
And I'm not taking any risk by not ordering the (pricy) ssd at Apple's...?
I mean - it should be easy to install and to put osx on it, right?

EDIT:
It seems a little cumbersome to re-install lion, since there's no installer discs delivered with the mbp...

Hm.. Must say that I'm about to chicken out a bit... I mean, the extra 440 $ for the Apple-installed SSD drive is maybe not that much to save you from problems:
1) The OCZ Octane ssd not working properly with the MPB
2) The hazzle of installing Lion without discs.
3) The hazzle of installing the new SSD drive...

What do you say?

Self-installation will NOT be hard. Do not buy the drive from Apple or have them install it for you.

If you live in the U.S. buy from newegg.com or newegg.ca if in Canada.
