Looking for a great pair or portable monitors/amp

I'm looking for a great pair of portable reference monitors to use with my lap top via apogee duet. They will not really be used as mixing monitors but more for composing. Can anyone please suggest something high end that sound great and are small? Thanks!

If you're looking for something fairly inexpensive but with a good sound then the Alesis M1 Active 520's get my vote.

I use these for my portable set up for workshops and they are lightweight, fairly small and sound much nicer than some of the others i demoed in a similar price range when i bought them (particular for clarity in the top end)

Not sure that they will be high end enough for you though.

What about if he needs other people to listen to his stuff while in the room?
I'd suggest Genelecs as well.I personally own a pair of 8020s w/their carrying bag and I travel with them all the time.My only grip the're not 220/110 switchable.
Just to throw it out there as well,a couple of my friends are really diggin the small B&Ws from the Apple Store. Havent checked them personally-it's pretty hard to make an assessment with all that noise in an Apple retail store.
For $500 though, they better be good!
