| Semi-Pro | Suddenly having iLok issues out of nowhere...
Hi guys, I posted this at the DUC forums, but maybe someone here can help... Lately when I start up PT9 I'm getting a message telling me that no ilok is found. Sometimes it will tell me the PT9 auth isn't found, other times its Waves or Autotune. Either way, I unplug the ilok2 and plug it back in and everything is good but this is starting to get annoying. It never did this for the past year, just started doing it out of nowhere. Any ideas what might be going wrong?

I've been having this same exact problem as well on Logic and with some plugins. Everything was ok a few weeks ago and now.. just out of the blue Ilok2 can't be found. BTW I had this problem before and then it stopped for a while and now it's back again. IMO iLok2 is unreliable and not nearly as stable as the first iLok. It's pretty clear that they have some quality control issues ... I've already been in touch with their support a few times and they asked me to send them the ilok2 back for replacement. It seems others have been experiencing similar problems.

I'm using iLok 1, and I have had the same problems lately. I have no idea why those PACE clowns are still allowed to run a business, btw. It's honestly a mystery to me. They should be closed down - the employees are probably qualified to claim disability living allowances anyway. |

It can't be a coincidence that software companies are moving away from iLok either - Waves, Brainworx etc. A good thing, too.

Yeah, but it's an occasional problem only, so you might be fine. That's at least good to hear. I used to say the same thing, but the last six months or so there have been occasions where I've been wanting to... Well, let's not go there. ![]() Anyway, hope you get your problems sorted! |

Check your USB hubs. I had one blow on me today.

Yes! It was the hub. I have the keys plugged in direct now and everything is working like normal. Thank you everyone!

I'm plugged in directly into the computer and having this problem... so it is not only a hub issue.

Having the same problem here with an ILOK 1. A couple of waves, soundtoys and a UVI soundbanks suddenly went invisible when starting Cubase. It can be corrected if I take out the dongle and put it back again. The thing is that I'm thinking this started right after I updated the Mach5#3 from 3.01 to 3.02. Is that something the rest of you can remember to? Maybe updating something with ILOK registration, affecting other ILOK Regs |

I got an iLok 2 just so I could demo VCC. It worked for 1 day then when I tried to open the session with VCC on it, every single time a track with VCC on it tried to open, it said "iLok not found. Please insert proper ilok to run this plugin". There was a cancel and an OK button below that. Cancel would skip it and continue loading the next track. This happened sometimes 70 times for 1 session. If you hit ok, it would just sit there. I've tried unplugging it and using a different USB port. I've tried re- installing the drivers, I've tried contacting Slate Digital. All 3 failed. What's odd is that my computer sees the ilok and so does the ilok site when I have my account up. This started around November last year. Someone from Slate finally hot back to me and asked if it was 'cause my demo expired. Duh, it's expired now stupid! It didn't work from day 2 of the demo!! I think it was a 15 day demo. I don't know who's to blame, iLok or Slate Digital but i'm sure not moving all my other licenses over.

I've had exactly the same problem with iLok 2 and Pro-Tools. I've been using Ableton Live for years without problems but I bought a bundle with Pro-Tools and NI Komplete and neither would run properly. I spent about a week emailing backwards and forewards to Native Instruments (it turned out that somebody had already go hold of my serial number and authorised it) although eventually that did get sorted out. The issue with Pro-Tools is that I can ONLY get it to run if I start up the computer without the iLok inserted, and then start Pro-Tools. I get a message saying the iLok is not found, I then insert it, and it starts up. It's a real pain. The worst part is that I'm manhandling the iLok every day, and I'm sure eventually it will get dropped, kicked or lost. I'd much rather leave it plugged into the back of the computer (which is racked) than have it sticking out of the front. It's annoying to think that loads of people are using cracked versions of the software without any of these issues, but the people who abide by the law and pay for their software are the ones being penalised.... |

Just another point on this issue - I was in Frankfurt in March and I discussed this issue with the AVID guys on their stand. They seemed to be saying that there weren't ANY issues with iLok etc, and that all of their 'professional' users are happy with it. Perhaps if you have a £16 grand pro-tools system running on a brand new mac then maybe it works ok. But every other piece of software I have runs flawlessly on my quad core custom built PC - I wish PT9 would do as well! You get the feeling that Avid are only really interested in supporting those users who have dedicated hardware as well as the software, but if they're going to sell Pro-Tools to anybody who has a PC, then they ought to at least make sure that it works properly on any 'standard' machine. |
