SCSI drive via Firewire

I have a DVD-RAM drive in a rackmount enclosure that I'd like to use for archiving purposes. My G5 has no open slots for a SCSI card. I found this firewire - SCSI converter:
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Ratoc/FR1SX/

The converter uses a HD50 SCSI connector and my DVD-RAM has a VHDCI (68 pin, wide) connector.
Can anyone tell me if this will work correctly if I get a HD50 - VHDCI cable (buss problems possibly?) or suggest any other alternatives?

Thanks!

It looks interesting, but you might want to check to make sure it supports your version of OSX. In the product page you linked to it only listed support for 10.1. Since it requires additional drivers, this could be an issue.

Otherwise, the only way to know would be to try it and see if it works.

Don't bother--you can buy an external all-singing, all-dancing CD/DVD+-RW etc. for not much more, and it will actually work, and will use media that you can actually buy, and for cheap.

Using an abandoned technology as an archival medium seems ill-advised.

That is a SCSI 2 narrow adapter it's very slow. It may work but it not worth it ...

FWIW SCSI Ultra Wide is very fast ...

Get a Sony DRU810A which is a dual layer DVD±R ($40) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...P=OTC-CNETFEED

throw it in a firewire enclosure for 25-35 and you're done. How much was the SCSI adaptor stuff you want to go with?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I guess using the SCSI DVD-RAM (it's a 9.4GB) may not be worth the trouble/expense. I got it in kind of a package deal with a bunch of other used gear & had hoped to make use of it, but I suppose spending more money on it wouldn't make much sense.
