Nice means online activation only and probably a server rechecks its authorization because of piracy. I mean seriously why pay Pace if people can still crack it. Overall though I'm worried every day of my ilok breaking kinda like how standard thumb drives tend to break. As in break I don't mean snap. Anyways glad to see 64 bit is coming for waves.

Will this mean no more need for ilok “down time" insurance?

I always wonder what problems people have with iLOK. Been using them since they came out and never a problem. Plug into your computer, done.

Me too.

Although from what i read if you do have a problem with ilok failure etc it can be a heartache to get back on track.

It happened for me that I am out of US ,and than for no reason (ilok was connected to usb port all the time) stopped working ,no Pro Tools no waves no autotune etc...now I am in Europe for the moment, now imagine how much hassle is to send back the ilok to US,and wait until I get the new one with recovered licenses ?!,I was thinking the same thing since I didn't have this problem for so many years but it can happen at any moment and than you are stuck.
For me personally this is a great news.

On the first read it sounds like really good news.

Would this mean having an internet connection always on though?

no*

* I'm just guessing because if they required people to be connected to the internet just to use their plugs then that would be the end of waves, and they're much smarter than that.

I knew that they will get me WUP'd one time. Now they did...
But I'll pay for getting rid of the fear of seeing my iLok deceasing and running into some trouble.

I just hope the new protection is not just a brand new back of hurt. Something like Plugin Alliance maybe? How do people feel about the Plugin Alliance way?

I've had 2 iLoks break on me, the 1st time after 6 weeks. I guess I'm just bitter about the replacement process. There's also been problems with OS changes, but that's on me because if i stick with the original OS longer, there's no problem.

But how do they break? Are you moving your computer around (laptop?)?

Guess I've been lucky because mine just sits and doesn't travel...but yeah I do prefer the online activation method, I don't like having transfer fees, etc etc. Be nice if this started a trend....

And cloud copy protection - definitely a move in the right direction.

and if you use a little USB extension cord... no reason for dongles to stick out of the sides and back of your computers like hedgehogs.

however, this 'news page' with waves.com at the bottom does not seem to appear on the waves.com site. Any verification that it is accurate?

Interesting that the overwhelming majority of resonses to this thread dealt with copy protection issues rather than the beauty of finally having 64 bit Waves plugs!

Same thing can happen with a USB stick or external drive. No need to blame ilok for it.

Yup, I have a USB extension hub and the dongles sit nicely under my MacPro.

I was just thinking that...
