Audio Engine Question.

If I use some VSTi's or DXi's in Soanr 5 and then bounce them and export them out as .wav files, does the Sonar audio engine effect them. I've been hearing samplitude has a better engine than Sonar but the midi isn't as strong.

Do you guys have any suggestions of being able to sequence in Sonar and mix the tracks in Samplitude? Or am I completely up in the night and adding a step I don't need?

You'll HEAR people say all kinds of things. Some people around the net do a HELL of a lot more talking than they do recording or testing.

You'll hear some folks tout Sonar 5's 64 bit audio engine. (Which, btw, can be switched back and forth between 32 bit processing and 64 bit.) You'll hear other folks say Samp just sounds better, period. (Like most other DAW's right now, it's got a 32 bit processing engine.)

Best is if you try to judge for yourself.

That said, yes, the audio engine will, of necessity, affect the sound of your VIs. Your VIs use the audio engine to, you know, process, mix, etc, your signal and output it to file or interface. (If you're mixing OTB, the audio engine will putatively affect your sound less, since your mixing will be done in your analog mixer.)

I've been discussing audio on BBs since before the WWW (Compuserve, newsgroups, etc) and there's ALWAYS been a lot of BS out there.

But since the huge explosion of interest in 'home/project recording' the amount of untested, ill-conceived, oft-repeated prattle has expanded to fill the experiential void in folks' heads... and there's more than enough void to go around.

Do your homework. Try things yourself. Listen to the results -- not the third-hand scuttlebutt that passes for 'informed opinion' around the net...

Thanks for the feedback. I currently use Sonar 3 and I'm looking for a new DAW and sound card. I mostly do Electronica/Chillout/Soundscape music so my projects are mostly "plug-in driven." I needed to make sure I covered all my base's before I made my choice.

0 + 1 is still 1
appart from how the plug-ins are implimented and some differences in dynamic range due to the implimentation of the engine eveything should be the same.
some say they hear a difference, fine use which ever you like.

pick you system on the best work flow for you.

Sequoia is superior to anything I have ever used. spendy, but well worth it.

Samplitude is fantastic as well.
