Playing .WMV Movies in Logic Platinum 6.3

If anyone can help me out here - I would really appreciate it. I've got a job on this weekend to make a soundtrack to a commercial and the movie file I've been given is a .WMV (which is Windows Media Player file). I downloaded the latest QT player (v7.0) and also the WMP software which allows QT to play .WMV movies. And it works when using QT in stand alone mode, BUT, when I open Logic (v6.3) I can not open the movie file.

Is there software that can convert WMV files to QT? Or if I upgrade to Logic Pro 7 (which I was planning to do sometime soon anyway) will Logic let me open these files into the movie window?

Thanks in advance.

yes indeedy.....

Flip4Mac make a bunch of small programs that will do everything you need - the basic 'WMV into QT' program is free I think. I've been using the Studio version ($49) for a couple of weeks without a hitch (Logic 7.1), though I know of a couple of threads that have mentioned glitches with QT. On the whole, their stuff gets only positive feedback from users, but obviously, watch out.YMMV.

Good luck with the gig

Thanks. I've already downloaded the free Flip4Mac, which plays wmv files when quicktime is in stand alone mode, but not in Logic. The full (non-free) version allows you to actually convert the files.

I've found a free trial of a video format converter called "River Past" but its for windows only. So I'm trying to convert it on my crappy old PC.

So Logic Pro 7 doesn't actually allow you to play wmv files? I would still have to convert them to mov files first?

Logic 7 won't play WMV - just tried, and though they have the QT icon (albeit with WMV in the text box), you can't select them.

Sorry to hear that the freebie won't be enough. If you want to mail me the WMV, I'll have a crack at turning it into a QT - my partner has a bunch of picture edit apps, so one of them might be up to the job if Flip doesn't suffice.

My PC was driving me nuts, so I gave in and upgraded Flip4Mac to the Player Pro version for $29 - I figured I'll probably use it again in the future. I am now importing (albeit very slowly cause its about 30mb) the wmv file into iMovie. Once its in there I should be able to export it to iDVD or straight to Quicktime - or at least thats the plan!

Bloody Microsoft!!! Why can't they make it easier for us.

Thanks again though. thumbsup thumbsup Fingers Xed I'll get started on it soon after midnight!!
