interesting thread. I've been using AD for a few years now and really like it, I think the raw kits sound great and the MIDI patterns that come with it are fantastic, very realistic which is important to me as a guitarist and songwriter who doesn't want to spend hours programming drum tracks. Other groove libraries like stuff I've bought from Groove Monkey, or the EZ Drummer patterns suck in comparison, they sound like a drum machine whereas AD sounds like a real drummer IMHO. As far as sound, it's funny b/c I was just experimenting with turning the room mics down in AD and it does sound better and cleaner. I think the drums themselves sound much better than the EZ Drums, but those are the only two I've tried. I'm curious, AD uses it's own MIDI map, I guess it should still be pretty easy to use the AD patterns with the SSD sounds though right? |

I know this isn't what the OP is asking, but nonetheless I think it's worth checking out NI Studio Drummer. Very reasonably priced and absolutely wonderful sounding. The snares have a nice and natural crack and the whole kit plays very expressively. -R |

| Will do! Are you able to use (drag n' drop) NI's samples in SSD's?

Their abbey roads kits are nice too slate drums keep getting better too, the early versions had the machine gun snares but its almost usable now, but the price for platnium I think is too high especially where you read about it crashing all the time. the Addictive drums I find very unimpressive

I too am not impressed with Addictive. Day 2 with Studio Drummer and I'm smiling. Took me 5 minutes to figure it all out--options for days, great effects, solid samples. I don't think I'll ever need to break the drums out to separate channels. -R |

| +1, Amazing sounding drums that will cater for most if not all genres of music & a few electronic kits too for good measure.

Ok so a question to the mixers present here on Gearslutz really... I know there isn't a right or wrong answer to this question, as is purely down to personal taste if anything, but am interested in hearing peoples general opinions. As a mixer, if you got a project in to sprinkle magic over with programmed/played drums..which would you, in the cold light of day, prefer to work with between Addictive Drums and Slate 4? User interface aside, does one have any major sonic advantage over the other to your ears? Does one give you more to work with tonally in the mixing process? I'm noticing a lot of people saying the cymbals are a step up on Slate. Does one have an edge over the other in captured realism?

After using SSD4 for a few weeks now IMO compared to AD it is a big step up in realism. With SSD4 I've never had to do so little to make it sound real - more real than any library I've used. My perspective is as a drummer with a percussion degree so these are things I think about a lot. I'm finally happy with one library for all my drum kits. They really do sit well in the mix with almost no processing and sound like a real kit. YMMV
