Thread Starter | Digital clock master & slave question
Is it best to make my Apogee Rosetta the master and have Samplitude slave to it or the other way around having the Rosetta follow the software? Also, I am having a bit of a hard time figuring out how to make my Apogee Rosetta the master clock and make Samplitude slave to it so that when I change the sample rate button on the Apogee, the software will change to match it in the record and playback options menu? Anybody here know how this is done and have any tips on how to set this up? I find Samplitude a bit confusing as it has several different windows and locations that you can choose from the pull down menus that allow you to set the sample rate. Shouldn't this just be in one pull down menu so that users don't get confused about where to navigate to when wanting to set the sample rate for thier project? |

your Software will always be the "slave" because IN THIS CASE only hardware can clock something (you need a reference, like a cristal, clock or something). when you change the samplerate(44,1 to 96khz) and bitdepth (16bit, 24bit, 32bit), the software tells the converter witch samplerate to use for recording. samplitude is the "master" (not clockwise) and tells his slave how to work, but the work itself is beeing done by the converter (rosetta) and the accuracy of doing the work properly is depending on the rosetta itself (called: clock). cheers George

George, Awesome answer. that makes sense for the most part. I come from the land of ProTools and I have just converted to Samplitude so I am used to the HARDWARE menu in PT where you have to set the sync for internal, external optical or external s/pdif. I am used to this scenario and I am just trying to convert my concepts over to Samplitude for having the Apogee clock the software. In Samplitude in the syncronization menu there is an option to set manually or to make it so that Samplituse automatically recognizes the sample rate and digital clock conming from the Apogee. Which of these options is the one I should be choosing to have my Apogee be the master clock and have Samplitude follow it? One last thing, in ProTools, one of the most commonly used features by myself was the "tab to transient" thing that lets you automatically line your selector tool up with the very left edge of strang transients in the waveform in an audio file to save you having to zoom in and play around until you get your cursor and selection just in the right spot. This feature made editing in Protools a lot faster. I am wondering if Samplitude has this feature because I can't find anything like it? If not, what is the best way in Samplitude to get the cursor to move right to the very beginning of transients in an audio file as well as getting ranges selected quickly and accurately with the selector tool lining up with the edges of waveform transients? One last thing, If I am monitoring my DAW through an analog mixing console and I also monitor live inputs that i am currently recording, is there any need for the Apogee Firemix zero latency monitoring software? Many people use Firemix with the Apogee Rosetta who mix inside the DAW and need zero latency on the hardware I/O for more accurate overdubbing. Thanks for all your wisdom! |

ups.. now I'm getting into serious knowledge trouble.. I never used protools (except LE for importing stuff and export raw files) nor did I use Samplitude (Cubase SX/Nuendo here). Then I am working with RME and HDSP mixer. I hope someone else will join who has a clue. good luck Jacklynn |
