Not sure what kind of system you are using, but I can give you a few tips that you might want to check out.

Protools is very finicky about the Firewire bus. It wants it all to itself, and it will not share. So, the first thing to check is this. Make sure you are connecting you audio interface directly to your computer (not through some other device), and also one trick I have found is to make sure to disable the 1394 Network Device (in Network and Dial-Up Connections) if you have one. In fact I have a laptop, with a ProTools LE rig, on which I have to disable every network device or I can't even play a session! So I would give that a try also.

Another thing to watch out for is using the internal disk as your audio disk. Some systems can get away with it, but often times you will need a firewire or usb2 drive for your audio.

If no of this helps, check out Digidesigns tech support section, and especially the compatibility guide.

Good luck!

We have also run into -6006 error, as reported here and elsewhere (Sweetwater, Avid).

Tried the above workaround to install the legacy driver, but without success.

Now, we consistently get the dialog saying that it could not detect the hardware. No amount of rebooting, power cycling (pc, and Mbox), nor cable swapping would resolve.

I have an HP Pavillion Entertainment PC (DV8T-1000) with a MOBO firewire port (4pin). Seems this is not compatible.

Ugh. Sending this thing back where it came from.

And moons later a gearslutz noob replies:

Ran into the -6006 error 3 times trying to launch m- powered proTools 8.0.5 (after updating from 8.0.3 - windows 7 - 64bit - profire2626 ).

tried vaesion's suggestion to uninstall ie 8 (seen above).

Seemed to work. no pt hangups on load.

I used microsoft's page here for guidance through turning off IE8.
The process warns of possible odd behaviors (if ie8 is turned off) - but i haven't seen any yet. in fact, the OS seems to load and run a bit faster. go figure.

How do I uninstall or remove IE as a troubleshooting step?
