Soundtoys 64-bit - are we close?

Anyone from Soundtoys care to comment on how close you are to releasing 64-bit versions? We just had Lexicon and Sonnox drop theirs, and other than Waves, this is one of the big ones a lot of us need. So Soundtoys, are we close?

It's sad these popular companies should of went 64bit long ago, Logics 32bit bridge was only put there as a temporary measure whilst these companies got their finger out.
Seems to me a lot of these company's have put 64bit to one side whilst they suck up to Avid prioritising their new format instead.
If you follow Soundtoys on Facebook all they seem to talk about is parties, if they spent less time partying we might see 64bit lol

I agree. We had 64 bit operating systems for a long time now. Is it going to be another 10 years before we finally leave 32 bit behind?

What is annoying is you wait years for 64bit plugins yet as soon as Protools Announce the AAX format some of these firms release AAX versions within days/weeks.
They seem to bend over backwards for Avid yet ignor us Logic/Cubase users.

Would truly love 64 bit aswell, however, as far as I understand recoding from 32 to 64 bit is really labor intensive with a lot of programming, much more than porting AU to AAX for example. But I agree, 64 bit is a must very soon!

Yes it's probably my problem because in my part of the world we wait in a queue for things and we get angry when others jump the queue

Ever had a full trolley at the checkout but you let the guy behind you get served first because he only has a loaf of bread then somebody else turns up with only a pint of milk and before you know it blah blah blah !!!..... 64 bit first then AAX......

OK, so it seems we need to clear some things up.

We are working on 64bit. We didn't put AAX in front of it and no one is playing favorites. It's honestly strange that anyone would think there was some advantage to us not getting this stuff done. Like we're holding it back for some sort of gain. Sheesh! We'd love to be done, and we're working hard to get it done. If it was easy, we'd be done. Again, no real benefit to us just sitting on it.

Do we have an ETA? Nope. Sorry. Love to tell you we do, but we do not. It's a massive undertaking, it's not fun coding like making plug-ins, and no one wants to pay for it even though we have to put a lot of time and money into doing it, so it's incredibly oppressive. Still, we know, it's part of being in this biz, so we are indeed doing our best to get it done.

We appreciate your patience even if it's wearing thin now. We get it. If we we're selling packages at $4000 every ten minutes then we'd have a whole team of young no sleep needing guys coding and perhaps we'd be done. The reality is, we try to keep our prices low and we're not quite hitting the "Every ten minute" mark for sales, plus we are a small team that has to work together to keep the whole business running.

So to sum up: We are working on 64bit and it is a priority. We do not have an ETA on release. When we do, we will shout about it as it will be a very happy day for us. Yes, we will be doing AAX too. No, it's not slowing 64bit development. Yes, we will do more parties. No, that is not slowing 64bit either.

Hope this helps. We really do appreciate the support, and understand and even share the frustration, so we will work to get done ASAP.

Thanks,
Mitch Thomas

Don't be jealous. Most of those "Parties" (we did two last year) are trade show events and we work the whole time. The last one was AES, and the event ran all day while we worked our booth all day. We got to check out the last hour or so of our own party. Ahhh, the glamorous life of the software industry. Still, we love doing them as it gets us out with real folks and we get great feedback. Much like the great feedback we get here.

...and I'm serious. No one wants to be done with all this platform stuff more than we do. It's really no fun, and we much prefer fun.

Mitch

As the thread starter, thanks for your reply Mitch. It's great that Soundtoys is among those companies who do respond to its customers inquiries re pressing issues in public forums (not that I or anyone would expect it all the time). Nonetheless, it's great to be kept up-to-date. Bravo!

Thanks for the update Mitch, it really makes a difference to hear your explanation. I had felt for the last 6-12 months like soundtoys and UA were really slacking on 64 bit. Now I realize that it is a serious undertaking and understand that it is tricky to do while maintaining reasonable pricing. I own every plugin you guys sell and really appreciate how great you guys are at what you do!

They're incredibly good plugins at a very reasonable price.
