How to record a Dolby Digital Stream

Hi

I hope this is the right board for my question.
I found a used dolby digital encoder. (original outboard gear produced by dolby)
The Problem: I know how i get the 6 discrete channels out of my computer and into the encoder but i have no idea what to do with the encoded material.
Can i somehow bring it back in my computer or do I need a special recorder.
Any ideas?
