UAD 64-bit in 2012 and will be free to users

Posted on the UA FaceBook page today ...

-----------------------------------------------

Dear UAD users -

Happy holidays.

Around this time each year, we tend to reflect on the past, and look forward to the future. 2011 has been a particularly good year for Universal Audio and the UAD platform, with the introduction of the UAD-2 Satellite and some exceptional new plug-ins. This year also marks the 10th anniversary for the UAD platform — a milestone we could not have achieved without your support.

Since we introduced the UAD DSP Accelerators in 2001, we've grown from just a few hundred users, to more than 45,000 owners worldwide. Over the past decade, we've introduced powerful new UAD hardware, as well as more than 50 new plug-ins, including groundbreaking titles with Ampex, EMT, Lexicon, Manley, Neve, SSL, Studer, and more.

Importantly, the high quality of these UAD products is directly related to your support — which literally funds the development of what we believe are the best audio processors in the world. Without this support, we would not be able to spend six months, nine months, or up to a full year developing our highly complex individual plug-in titles.

So for that, we sincerely thank you.

Looking forward, one increasingly common request is for UAD plug-ins to become fully 64-bit compliant. Rest assured, the UAD plug-in transition to 64-bit architecture will be completed in 2012.

Importantly, this 64-bit compatibility will come at no cost to our users. You have chosen to support us, and we will support you as audio processing standards evolve.

Again, thank you for using UAD Powered Plug-Ins. And please know that the best is yet to come.

Sincerely,

Bill Putnam Jr.

OMG So we´ll get UAD 64-bit 2012 Q4, definitely not Q1 by the sound of that pathetic letter. How very nice!

That´s it, I´m gonna sell my UAD-2 cards. It´s pathetic how long it takes for them to wake up to the modern times! Ridiculous!

Hopefully the other dinosaur (Waves) will get their act together in the beginning of 2012, so I can use my Waves plugins which I haven´t been able to use for about a year now.

Thanks to all developers who have already given us 64-bit! You rule!

Not trolling, I just can´t believe how frikkin slow these guys are. I mean they have all the money and resources. What´s the frikkin problem!!????

I could even pay for the update, if they would get it done in January 2012. I just can´t believe this. Really bad news, my day is ruined.

I am thinking that by late Summer/early Fall we will see the 64bit compatible plug-in release which would bring us right up to v6.4. Which is only logical when you think about it. Now I bet the marketing folks will have a field day with that one! I say better late than never and I can't complain too much when something is free. I have just about every plug-in, in the UAD catalog, so getting all of my 50+ plug-ins updated to 64bit without having to pull anything out my wallet is welcome news indeed.

Cheers,

Billy Buck

I agree 100% I would pay $100 for a 64 bit update. Plus I would not hold it against them as I'm sure there's tons of work involved. If they charged every customer they could pay for "overtime". But I guess we'll just have to wait 1 more year.

Agreed, remember guys prior to today we didn't even have an idea of if/when this would occur. At least we're better off now!

UAD (64-bit) ready during 2012 is quite a vague statement.

hey.. Jan 2012 would be a perfect month

but I have a feeling it's going to be more like Jan. 2013

Only time will tell how fast UAD delivers their 64-bit version plug-ins.

Bottom Line : The Sooner UAD goes 64-bit, The Better !

I love UA but this letter doesn't pacify my perturbation regarding the slowness of bringing out 64-bit versions. It should have been completed 18 months ago. I too would have been willing to pay something if it would have meant being able to move forward sooner. Oh well

I think that letter had been already sent to users at the beginning of the year.
Lets hope we won't have to wait another six months...

Another six months? I'd be OK with that. Let's hope we don't have to wait until Dec. 31st, at 11:59 PM (more likely)...

You, me, and a whole host of others have been unfairly placed in the same boat on this one.

This is the ONLY thing holding up my move over to 64 bit! It is so annoying, because with the prices they charge they really should have stepped up to the plate long ago.

Hell, even the smaller plugin companies have nearly all released 64 bit already.

UAD - c'mon guys, let's get with the program, shall we?

And spare a thought for those of us with UAD1 only, given very little notice on the tradeup deal, considering the relatively massive cost of going from UAD1 single processor to UAD2 single processor.

If I had been given month or two more notice I might have been able to put together the cash for a UAD2 solo pci-e WITH the discount, but we arent all loaded with spare cash at the drop of a hat.

The recent UAD plugs sell for $350. I haven't bought a single one at that price. If they offered 64 bit last January (or even right now) for that price, I would gladly pay for the ability to use all my RAM and not have to freeze all my VSTis.

UA is the only thing holding up my migration to full 64 bit.

What's the point, anyway? Next time I'll see users complaining because they found out that this or that manufacturer uses this_naming_scheme for variables in their programs instead of ThisOtherOne.

I don't have a big investment in UAD, but honestly I'd rather that the upgrade, when released, worked perfectly and was bullet proof, rather than I got it in as hurry and it maybe wasn't quite ready for prime time. I'm more than willing to wait until it is right, rather than cry and curse about some half-assed hurried release.

I wish that I shared your sentiment. And honestly, I would-- IF UAD had been keeping up with the pace of the other plugin companies who have had 64-bit out for nearly 2 years now (PSP, Sonnox, etc.).

They should have been on this a long time ago. Then, if they had problems implementing it, I would be sympathetic. But this late in the game? C'mon UAD!

UA should be ashamed! It´s really unbelievable how amateurish they are. All the major developers have made 64-bit versions a long long time ago.

And they don´t give even any info about the delay to their customers!
