Guitar Rig 5 and CPU or how do you deal with CPU spikes?

I recently upgraded to GR5 and while I love the features in the new version, anything with reverb is unusable. My main studio system is a AMD Phenom 995 X4 and has always run everything I've thrown at it without issue. My mobile rig is centered around a Lenovo Ideapad Y570 with a i7 proc that also handles 20+ tracks with plugins no problems.

I just don't get it. Any reverb in the chain and CPU spikes and sound crackles in a destructive symphony of noise.

Maybe it's just too new. Maybe it's just a bug. How have you dealt with running a clean system that kills everything else but that one plugin, it just melts?

(to mention I have a clean rig on both machines so it's not AV or other programs in the background causing the issue. )

Thanks

Yes,I know what you mean, Im quite amazed by it's High use of resources considering, but I only have probs on my laptop-i7 2630qm,and only if I hit the "HI"switch, otherwise it uses around 7% to 22% no matter what the preset.Sorry this ain't much help but,"any i7 Sandy Bridge" should be fine for at least a couple of instances. On my i7 2600k @4.4GHz,Ive yet to reach a limit. I only use G.Rig for scratch as I much prefer the rec. sound of my Marshall 2203,even with el cheapo dynamic mic's, close miked,on a 4x12,always slightly off axis, clean or dirty.Perhaps you need to up your cpu?

We have the same CPU. i7. I never had this issue with GR4.

Try disabling any CPU power management in the BIOS...

Before disabling these features, I was able to run 4-5 instances of Amplitube 3 with latency at 40ms

Now, I can run about 25 at latency of 4ms.

Processor is an old Phenom II 720.

Are you sure? there are 1st and 2nd Gen. i7's, Sandy bridge is second.Ivy is next.I actually use both GR4 AND 5 and don't see any difference[except a few presets],although as I said, they're hogs for sure. PS,this is for the OP.

Hi,
I just demoed GR5, and, while GR4 ran without problems on my 3ghz c2q Q6600, some presets give extreme spikes, no way to make use of them in sonar - and yes it seems some havin reverb. most other presets run very fine below 30%continuously.
'Harmonic Synt Lfo...' preset for example hits the border of my cpu very hard, even when not in Hi-Resolution.
So nothing to do with Sandy-Bridge. There is a very huge cpu impact on some effets, and spikes that render them unusable, at least for me as well.

Kind regards,
Martin

Weird, either my computer is inordinately powerful[?],or somethings wrong with your rig's?[?] I can run multi instances[in SONAR X1,5 or six,D.I. Elec.Guit+ G.R.] of both 4 and 5 no problems.

Just got the GR5 upgrade from GR4 and the new GR5 presets are hitting that CPU meter at 50-70% load....that's huge! And if you click the new HD button it goes even higher.
None of the other older presets or FX from GR4 ever went that high?!?
Maybe 10-15% max but they also stay there and don't bounce and jump all over the place!!!
Some of those new presets are completely un-useable in Cubase 6.0.5 because the VST performance meter spikes and overloads.
Is this another great NI product that doesn't work?
Everything else on my DAW and system works great besides that..
Anyone seeing this same problem or have a fix?

I switched off the Cool n Quiet option in my workstations BIOS and dont get the CPU spikes anymore. CPU has to run at full power.

yea gr5 uses a lot more juice than 4, it does sound better but I think it uses more than it has to. maybe they'll make it a little more efficient over time.

Anybody found any fix or workaround for these new GR5 presets that spike up to 70% and then cause pops, crackles and drop outs?
I notice there was a particular component in some the new presets that if I turned it off seem to dramatically lower the CPU meter in the preset.
I think it was a reverb or delay module inside this "Container" unit.
Haven't quite figured that thing out yet....maybe it has something to do with some of the new NI compressor plugins that you need to use within GR5, so maybe that's why they don't work properly. I don't have any of those!
Just GR5
Several of these new presets are just un-useable!
Any enlightened GR5 users out there?
Starting to feel like getting this NI upgrade was a bad idea...
This is turning into another typical NI stuff....once again!
Agh

I had similar spikes in G5, but when I quit using the Reflektor reverb, or at least quit using the xxl setting, the usage improved a lot. Hope this helps!

Yes barfwafl!...thanks for confirming that....that is exactly what I was finding.
I also found that xxl setting to be the problem! The CPU went down significantly after changing that.
Doesn't that seem like a bug in that Reflektor module or something?
You'd think NI would have checked all of that stuff.
All the settings available in this GR and the possibilities is just crazy stupid!
Most of it is weird fluff and ridiculous anyway...
I find only a few presets are worth using....but that's pretty typical with all of NI's stuff...Komplete stuff is the same way.
