Should I now dump my SCSI drives in favor of LaCie D2 FW drives?

Hi,

I just opened up my DAW PC thinking that i had one more spare PCI slot and discovered that i was using them all. I need to install another Lynx AES-16 card desperately. I have recenlty begun to use LaCie Exreme D2 firewire drives and so far they seem to be working well. I have 4 large capacity SCSI drives as well but I have not been powering them up in recent months, just been using them as a form of file backup. If I were to pull the Adaptec SCSI card I would have the spare PCI slot that I need .

So my question is do you think that multiple LaCie D2 FW drives are reliable enough to hold not only my audio files but also my samples and backup files? I have a FW 800 card installed

U should use SATA internal 10K drives if your gonna dump SCSI. I use one, and it works great. I have firewire drives for back-up that stay turned off and disconnected from the computer when not in use.

Been using external FW drives for many years now with little to no problems: had an average of one FW bridge death about every 4 years, but thats multiple FW drives in each room; 10 rooms and 5 mastering suites. I'd say they're reliable, but I've now moved to external fiberdrives with FW drives still being used for backups
SATA drives are the future, but if you need portable, well, I checked the prices recently and I'd save some $ and stay w/ FW till prices come down some
