Thread Starter | Korg X3 Floppy Problems
Hello Everyone! I'm new on here. Can anyone Please tell me how I can switch out my old floppy drive on my Korg X3 Workstation and replace it with a new Floppy Emulator that can read from a zip/flash drive card? I've seen on YouTube something about a Nalbantov USB Drive Emulator, but there is no where to go and buy one. The Korg X3 is a fantastic musical tool but the floppy drive makes it difficult. Especially when your preforming live and load up songs. It seems that my drive say's " Drive Not Ready" even if the floppy disk is new and formatted. It's a real bummer. If anyone has idea's and solutions please let me know. Thanks--Jaybone |

I have an X-3 with a broken floppy drive as well, but unfortunately I have no solution either. The key is finding out what kind of bus it's connected to which I highly doubt is USB. You might have better luck asking over at the Korg forums. http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ |

| Current USB Floppy emulators will not work for Korg X3
Sorry to say but the current crop of USB-Floppy emulators are not compatible with the Korg X3. I have had an X3 for over 20 years and I'm a broadcast engineer, so I'm pretty handy with a screwdiver. The units on the market use the same connection interface (34 pin ribbon with a female plug and a standard 4 pin power plug) as regular 3 1/2 " floppy drives. The Korg floppy drive uses a flat flex-ribbon EDGE connector (no plug...just the bare contacts on each side of the ribbon film) that incorporates power and data/control. I have the service manual / schematic for the X3 and I'm gonna see if I can fabricate a plug adapter. But for now...no joy!

This is an old thread, but here is the guy I've used for replacing pretty much all my older korg etc floppy drives when needed over the years (for the guy who has a broken one). x3 drives are at the lower part of the page. Pop em in and they're good as new. This guy may also have info on other solutions for more storage- Drives - Route 66 Studios
