E-MU 1616M and E-MU 1010 PCI V1 compatability

Hi. I have an E-MU 1616M (micro dock) which I've been using with a laptop with no problems. Now I have acquired a desktop which I wanna get setup - so I can use the 1616M with both (not at the same time, obviously!).

I'm looking for a 1010 PCI rather than a PCIe, as my graphics card is taking up my express slot, but I see that the 1616M only seems to be shipped with the 1010 PCIe card, not a PCI card...

I have found a 1010 PCI online, used, but this has the firewire port that the 1010 PCIe does not have...I think these are also referred to as the 1010 V1 and the 1010 V2?

So, can I use the 1616M with the 1010 V1 PCI?
or do I have to get the 1010 PCIe and replace my PCIe graphics card with a PCI card?

I know that the older version of the 1616M, the 1820 (audio dock) does NOT work with the 1010 PCIe, but I don't see anywhere that the 1616M will not work with the 1010 PCI.

Thanks

You need a 1010 v2 pci. Im currently using one. V1 has a firewire port and is the one that is incompatible. Youll have to find pci version without the fw port.

ok , thanks, so the V2 is the way to go if I wanna keep my 1616M, which I do as I can then still use it with my laptop with the express card (with adaptor)...i think getting a new dock wont let me do that?...

So, going the cheaper route, as suggested, I found a used 1212m on ebay, without the firewire port on the 1010 card, although the seller describes it as PCI and not PCIe...is this right?...I may have to ask the seller, but can you tell from the pictures?

E-MU 1212M PCI Digital Audio System | eBay

With the configuration of 1212m, connected to the 1010 internally and then to the 1616m micro dock externally, will this give me extra i/o or will the i/o from the 1212m be duplicated on the 1616m?

I think I found the answer to my last question...i think i'd not be able to use the 1212m and 1616m at the same time? i'd just be utilizing the daughter card of the 1212m, which to me looks just like the 1010, but seems to be referred to as the 02?

The card from ebay will work with 1616 dock. Got exactly the same one, and working prefect.

And yes, when connected to with 1616, none of the jacks on 1010 will be operational, also e-mu insists that, if you use the dock, do not connect the 0202m daughter card or they calm the system won't work (I say them claim because I haven't tested this). When u disconnect the 1616 you will able to use the adat and spdif connectors on the 1010 card, when used with the dock only the connectors on the dock work.

I'm in a bit of a similar situation.

I have a 1212m V1. So I have to grab an 1820 or 1820m breakout box right? I wanna be able to do dual track inputs. There's quite a few "box only/no sync card included" deals around so I'd like to just keep the 1212m that I have....or actually the 1010 sync card.

I know the 1820m was an upgrade over the 1820. But was the upgrade in the box or in the 1010 card? Should I grab the 1820m or just save money and grab the 1820?

Thanks!

I now have this up and running - it's working well.
actually this claim made by e-mu actually doesn't seem to be the case: With the 0202 daughter card connected to the 1010 soundcard, running through the 1616m audio doack is as easy as just connecting it to the 1010m - with no need to disconnect the 0202 - the 1616m takes precedence over the 0202 and is selected automatically in patchmix...with no problems.

JLiRD808..
yes, it sounds like a similar situation, although with the V1, the audio dock you need is the 1820, not the 1616...
Regarding the 1820 over the 1820m...
Sound quality due to the converters in the m version is superior. I went for the m option - i suggest that if you can find a used 1820m over an 1820, go for it, if possible. The mastering grade converters are worth the extra bit of money - and its not even that much more.
Good luck in the search

I think i read something yesterday about someone using the express card in an adapter card, the adapter being a pci-to-express card adapter, which the express card is inserted into physically and then placed inside the computer, however u would have a cable sticking out of the side of the computer and probably would have to keep the side panel off the computer indefinatey! but,
i think this might work?

You can only use one E-MU 1010 PCIe or PCIe card per system. The 1010 PCI card for the 1820/1820M is not compatible with the 1616/1616M MicroDock as well as the other way around.
