16 GB MacBook Pro or Mac Mini RAM deal

I had a couple folk PM me about a link to the 16 GB Corsair RAM (2 x 8GB) I mentioned in another thread. $299 for 16 GB and a free 16 GB USB flash drive as well ...

Newegg.com - CORSAIR 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 Laptop Memory Model CMSO16GX3M2A1333C9

I am using this in a 2011 MMS (Mac Mini Server). It will work in 2011 MBP's and, I believe, 2011 iMac's as well. I believe they all use 1333 DDR3 SO-DIMM's

This is by far the cheapest price I have found and there are several comments of folks using it successfully on MacRumors as well as the feedback on Newegg.

Other World Computing is currently at $520 for 16GB (price is still dropping - down from $569 a couple days ago there).

I ran a couple cycles of memtest with no issues, so this is definitely the go-to solution for maxing out your MBP or MM.

Crucial

I recently purchased a Mac mini with base 2gb RAM, and upgraded it to 8gb with RAM (2x4) from the company Crucial. I think that I only paid approximately 50-60$ delivered. Very pleased. I know that this is not a direct answer to your question, but perhaps this information may help you.

That's a pretty awesome deal, I haven't seen two 8GB sticks anywhere for less than $500, thanks for the hookup!

They seem to have a "qualified for apple" version of exactly the same ram for $400 on their site as well. Asked them if there were any physical differences, and they said no - just they've been tested to work in apple...

Seems odd, but hey!

16gb seems a bit overkill on a MBP, no? i have 4gb on my current and i usually use about 3/4 of it when producing with safari open with some tabs. i know osx uses more when it has more but surely 8gb should be enough imo. ill be getting a new mbp and giving her 8gb of ram.

I purchased that exact ram locally about a week ago. I actually started looking for some about 3 weeks ago... but in that two week period prices dropped by $100!

Depends what you are doing. I have a reaper session containing 16 tracks, external effects patched in via ReaInsert, 6 VI's including EZdrummer and Vienna sound instruments and my new mini mac server was choking with 8gb of ram. Ram usage is probably exaserbated by the fact that I need to use the 32bit plugin bridge and also need to share memory with graphics processes... 64bit is ram hungry. I dig it...

With 16gb I now have headroom to spare, so I don't really need to worry about it...

Great deal! The price has come down to 259$ now. It makes you wonder if just waiting for a few more weeks will be rewarded with an even lower price. OWC is still at 499$.

I wonder if I will be able to get 16GB in a mid 2010 i7 macbook pro, as I have 8 in here at the moment which isn't officially supported, but is working fine. Any thoughts?

Im not sure, but its not likely. That particular RAM is for "Sandy Bridge" CPU's[released Q1 2011]. What you can do is find the exact processor I.D.,and go to intel's site[assuming your cpu is intel,of course!]For example,my PC Lap,has an i7 2630qm,and I assumed its RAM limit was 8GB,since that is all the manufacture offers. After going to intel's site, I learned it's limit is 16GB.
