I've been with Sonar since Pro Audio 9. I recently switched to Studio One V2 after Sonar X1 frustrations and I'm not looking back. It does exactly what I want a DAW to do, and uses many of the Sonar 64 bit plugs (of which I'm familiar). I have had NO crashes...none....nada in Studio One. The single window interface is clean and doesn't try to do too much. Btw, what is with the HUGE widgets in X1? I bought a Dell high resolution 27" montior just to deal with that. Studio One looks like a sexy beast compared to X1 on this same monitor. I prefer Protools 9 editing to Studio One, but I can get what I need done, done...and that's the key - with no crashes...I'm mainly recording analog and transferring; however, I've had 40 track MIDI projects with 15 soft synths open and ready in S1V2 with no issues. Can you tell I'm excited about growing with this product??? And I'm completely off of the PT train. I didn't even reinstall on my newly built computer. I'm probably the only guy in Nashville on Studio One, but I guess I can consolidate and send wav files, when required... Regards, Don |

Studio one v2 is the solution. Stable, already good and they just begun. Pro version can handle third party vst and the workflow is awesome. I've tried for a long period cubase but never got used to it. Studio one has been made to work, not like cubase to learn (whole the time) Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Gearslutz.com |

I use Sonar. 7, 8.5 and X1. I'm on a 3ghz core2quad 9650 with 4GB ram. W7. And I have no crashes... Yesterday on this laptop I was editing a movie. When finished. The movie needed to be exported. The application could not. So I had to update the codecs. One codecpack was not working well. So I had to uninstall that to deal with a crash. After that the system performed as I wanted. In your case, isn't there an issue with your system? A hardware piece failing. Some memory wich is faulty? I mean my X1 works. Maybe systemcheck could help.

Unfortunately for them, it makes absolutely no sense to people who use another DAW on the same computer and have exactly ZERO ISSUES with it...

I have mentioned my system details. I am not mad at you or anything. I do not have any stock in Cakewalk. Just mentioning I do use Cakewalk Software and I do not experience your trouble... I moderate Tascamforums and am very familiair with people struggling with the complexity of the units they work with. Damn.... I struggle every once and a while myself... I owned a Dual athlon MP with a raid card in there. Years later I read in a book about Protools my complete issues with that card in that machine. But everytime I would contact Promise (raid card manufacturer) they would deny any issues.... So I know those issues myself... I lost many many projects on that machine... I've seen many many blue screens... |

I was in a similar boat... found this and it proved pretty handy. I ended up with Cubase as it happens... Buying DAW Software | What is DAW |

My guess is the main problem behind it is the Sandy Bridge processor, since there are documented issues with it, that Cakewalk so far has refused to fix - so just assuming that some issue are related to that. Others have been reported by several users on different systems, like BitBridge bugs. I have tried for more than 6 months to get these issues fixed - the problem is 100% Sonar. As much as I like the GUI and workflow, at the end of the day the programme simply has to work as expected, which X1 doesn't, and never has for me.

I jumped on the Sonar X1 bandwagon as well a few months back. It did its job very well (with like 2 crashes on windows 7 x64) and I was very happy with it but it never quite felt right. I was a very devout Pro Tools user so the need for similarity in my next daw was great. And then... I came across Samplitude Pro X. All was right with the world and my happy days returned with a handful of new features and a much more powerful audio engine. I've read all the daw's thrown around here but Samplitude Pro X is up there and definitley worth a look. Clean sounding engine, plugins that sound amazing (the AM plugins) and object based editing (once you use it you'll ask why you ever did automation so crude) make Samplitude Pro X a real competitor. Check it out |
