Best DAW software for OTB effects

I've been investing in some outboard compressors and just got an KSP8. I REALLY want to use these tools instead of only plugins during mixdown.

What software should I check out that will most easily allow me to integrate external effects without latency problems? I use Sonar 4 and don't think it'll let me do what I want in this situation. I want to monitor outboard effects in realtime without printing and nudging audio. Been leaning towards Cubase. Any other contenders I should check out?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have Cubase SX3 and with the external effects feature in it, i can just insert my harware units the same way as any other software insert effect. The delay is compensated with one press at the button

Ofcourse Nuendo should be a step up

Thanks. Any other software that will do this? Or is Steinberg the only company that offers it now?

Digital Performer 4.6

I am not an audioengineer. I am not a professional. "Don't know much about history ..."
DP4.6 has a mixing board module with sends and returns, which may fulfill your needs. It also allows creation of bus tracks which can also do what you want (I think).
I cannot give you info on comparisons with other DAW SW.
Yours, ES
