I ordered the upgrade from the MOTU website last night. I'll let you know if/when it actually arrives!

Is it worth the upgrade? Better cross grade or stay grade?

What are the advantages of DP5?
Have you considered leaving MOTU for another DAW by crossgrade?
Yours, ES

My upgrade to V5 is on the way. I've got the UPS tracking number and it should be here Tuesday.

Crossgrade a different DAW--have you gone completely *mad*?

I started using Performer (the precursor to DP) since version 2.14 or something like that, back in the late 80's. I've used others as well, but DP is one of the few that gets better every release. And they've survived. Vision, MasterTracks Pro, and many others have fallen by the wayside or become irrelevant.

Based on the new features advertised, I'd say the upgrade to DP5 is going to be worth it. The track folders alone is going to do it for me--I was getting really tired of scrolling up and down long lists of tracks.

MasterTracks Pro... now THAT brings back memories.

You're gonna like track folders. I don't know what other goodies DP5 will have (haven't been to the site) but my DAW has had folders for a while and they're great.

Sometimes, it really IS the little things.

I've had DP 5 for a couple of days now. It's a great upgrade for me because the track folders, new VIs and new QT scoring functions factor into what I do in a big way (I make music for tv and videogames).

No, but they are working on it right now, so I would guess a couple of months.

How fast is the response? Does the added VIs and extra "bloat" especially for those of us less interested in them, effect the speed/response? How's the spiking compared to version 4.61? It takes a few moments for the background processing, even when deselected, to be done so spiking calms down. At least that's been my experience.

I'm not planning on jumping on this upgrade riight away, at least until I get more feedback. The $195 price hike's a little much me thinks.

The VA's are probably just plugins, which could be removed from the plugin folder. I remove most DP plugs that I don't use. Shortens launch time and doesn't seem to affect the performance of the software in any negative way. Some plugs are inter-related, so you have to be careful about that. But if you are worried about bloat, you could probably remove the plugs youaren't interested in. I'll try it when I get my DP5 and let you know (if I remember).
