That optimizes the gainstaging of the plugin and allows the widest sweet spot on the compressors and saturators. When you see the Red LED light, you are now clipping the processors... which is not necessarily a bad thing, it all depends on the effect you're going after.

Under the hood, the Headroom knob adjusts the entire *internal* operating level of the plugin, so it allows you to lean harder into all the processors simultaneously, or back off them all. Increasing headroom, just as in the analog world, means the plugin will distort less, compress less, and saturate less. Conversely, robbing the plugin of headroom is a way to intensify the colorations and distortions of the whole plugin with one single knob.

As you tweak your settings on the individual sections, you may find you want more drive and breakup overall, in which case you should reduce the amount of Headroom.

Conversely, if you find that you want to really work this plugin as subtly as possible and retain maximum transient fidelity and harmonic integrity, increase the Headroom so that all sections are operating in their less aggressive, more gentle range.

Enjoy!

Finally! this plugin is all about the sweet spot. i read somewhere on GS that the sweet spot, was about the dancing red light. i went there and it was too distorted and i was wondering if this is a fuzz box, now i get it finally. Greg you should be granted the "RGP" award's - Really Great Plugin!

I concur. I say that because +1 isn't enough characters for a post apparently.

Is the automation turned off for the demo or does this plug offer no automation to Pro Tools? I opened the automation menu, but no controls appear.

Weird. I have the demo and just literally seconds ago automated it (Master Bypass, but still).

This is the first report I've got of such an issue; there is no demo of the plug per se, only a demo license that expires. The code for the UBK-1 is the same regardless of what license you're using, so something else is going on.

Can you clarify your platform/OS/PT version, and whether you're running mono, multichannel, or multi-mono?

Thanks!

This is what I see when I click the Automation Enable button on the UBK-1:

PTHD 8.0.5cs2 - OS10.6.4 Snow Leopard - All working perfectly as one would expect.

The only talking point re: Auto is that the automation enabled controls don't circle "red" when the channel goes automated like many PT plugins (not all) do. Other than that, working as expected here.....

Maybe is just me, but I do not like the feel of the knobs and the response of the GUI.

Also I want a way to even the Volume of the UBK-1 on and Bypass, using extreme settings is hard to know where is your sound if sounds louder than in bypass.

Mine doesn't have knobs, just pictures of knobs that you can click on and move around.

Wow, this plug-in is some strooooooooong medicine - and I like it!

Is there or will there be a user manual or some literature explaining the various controls/settings and what's going on with each one?

Thanks for this,

J~

Any updates on the arrival time of VST please?
Will cost be the same of less as usual with the price differences that a lot of RTAS/VST devs seem to release? Im guessing the same.
Any sound comparrison demo out there yet, with/without.

Thanks

We go into beta on the native formats in 3 weeks, that's all I know for sure at the moment.

The $299 price is for one master license that activates all of the platforms, so you pay once and use whatever version(s) work for you.

I'm uploading a video manual and video demonstrations tomorrow morning; meanwhile, there are sound clips on this and other threads where people have posted before/after.

Enjoy!

Hey Gregory,

I just downloaded the demo and went in today to try it for only about an hour, and I gotta see it was a lot of fun. This thing can do all sorts of compression and sound shaping. I even saved a preset of my own that was using no compression at all but imparted "something" really warm and musical on some lifeless drums...I'm stoked to buy this thing. Thanks for all your hard work, brother.

I've run the plugin on mono, multi-mono, and multichannel tracks both audio and AUX, no automation on any of them.

I'm on Windows 7 64-bit, running PT 9.0.5.

It is good to know it is _supposed_ to have automation and there might be a funny Windows thing going on. I did run the setup program again, but didn't fix the issue.

Some UBK-1 Videos

I posted this in the new products alert but wanted to hit this thread as well since people here probably aren't hanging over there.

Here's a brief video overview of the concept, the thinking behind the UBK-1, I still need to attach this to the next video but what the hell, here it is on its own:

UBK-1: The Concept

And here's the Video Manual & Sound Demo, going in-depth with every control, explaining the power of the serial/parallel architecture, and finally having fun fattening up some sounds with 4 UBK-1's on acoustic instruments and the 2-mix.

UBK-1: Video Manual & Sound Demo

Enjoy!

Thanks for the great videos!

I wonder how long it would have taken me to discover that I could bypass each section by clicking the meter!
