| The current VST architecture doesn't allow for sidechaining. The next version supposedly will. |

With multi-input VST plug-ins and a host with flexible routing it is not a problem to achieve sidechaining. For instance, CubaseSX, Ableton Live and Tracktion does support sidechaining. It may be a little tedious in some hosts, but I believe it is up to the developers of hosts to provide better and more elegant support of effect/bus routings instead of blaming the VST architecture. I have created a couple of video tutorials on how to set up sidechain compression using the Compadre beatpuncher compressor. The basic approach however is the same with other multi-input VST plug-ins. One of the videoes uses CubaseSX and guess it will be similar in Nuendo. The videoes can be downloaded from http://www.otiumfx.com/compadre.php. The technique is also described on our forum in this thread. Unfortunately the Waves plug-ins (at least on the VST platform) only offer the basic 2-channel inputs, so sidechain will therefore be limited to mono tracks. Hope this helps. Best regards, Rune

| Sorry about that. We are having some server issues right now. We are in the process of moving to a new hosting service, so things may be a little unstable these days. Try again in a few hours. Best regards, Rune

| One thing that confused the crap out of me at first was that in SX3 I had to route my mono bass and kick to their own stereo busses before I could sidechain using the child bus technique. If you just use mono channels you will have bass guitar coming out of one side of your speakers. |
