extracting audio from movies

i want to extract audio samples from movies and was wondering what is the best software approach

up until now i have simply recorded the analogue outs from a standard dvd player, but i would rather avoid the extra ad/da conversion (and avoid using spdif/adat)

idealy i would like to be able to:
-extract digital wav. files directly from the internal pc dvd rom drive.
-have the option of extracting from other formats like avi, divx, wmp, etc.
-extract only desired clips (in turn not having to extract the whole 2 hour movie audio file to get a 5 secnd clip)

im using pc + motu + cubase sx2

heres what it sais on the website:

You can use MPEG Streamclip to: open and play most movie formats including MPEG files or transport streams; edit them with Cut, Copy, Paste, and Trim; set In/Out points and convert them into muxed or demuxed files, or export them to QuickTime, AVI, DV and MPEG-4 files with more than professional quality, so you can easily import them in a DVD authoring tool, and use them with many other applications or devices.

---------

doesnt say anything about wave format.
do u know if it does?

--

big saccs, do u know if the imtoo software does any re-encoding when it ripps?
ultimately i would like to be able to extract perfect digital streams as it is recorded (so if the dvd is recorded in 192khz, it would be in that format after extraction)

seems to me that all of these programs only let me extract the ENTIRE audio file
although please let me know if i am mistaken (hope i am)

is it possible with any of these to extract ONLY the desired clips (say 15 seconds of a certain part?)

i think that on a mac 'Peak' can do this, is there a solution for PC?
