Thread Starter | timestretching or pitching, for transients?
If i have some audio that i want to speed up, (pitch is not important to me at all) Would i preserve the transients better pitching upwards in a sampler (kontakt) or time stretching in something like acid. I just want the track to be about 15 bpm faster, but i don't want a mushy transient response. What do u guys think? Timestretch in acid, or pitch up in a sampler? |

Definately pitch it up. Timestretching will introduce unpleasing artifacts to your sound, esp on a mix. If it was just an instrument, like a guitar or trumpet etc. it would be OK. But seeing as your not fussed with pitch, defo just speed it up. Also, timestretching work much better on sounds without sharp attacks. So yeah stretching drums/percussive sounds will almost always sound a bit "mushy" as you say. Best. |

The answer is pitching up. 'Shrinking' or 'de-timestretching' will take out segments of the sample, leaving you with less of the artifacts that made up the attack of the sample. By pitching up, you will be leaving all the segments in place, but playing them faster instead. |
