Thread Starter | CD/DVD writer problems
What should I look at to correct my writer problems? There has been nothing changed on this computer ( P4 3.4ghz) in months; no updates or new software, no hardware, drivers......nothing. Things appear to write just fine. Yet, all of sudden, I can get no cd or dvd to pass verification with either Nero or Samplitude when they do their verification step. I have also tried another writer and both will write but not verify. There are always errors in Samplitude or messages in Nero saying the data doesn't match. But both writers work when placed on another computer. And the drive the data is being written from shows no fragmentation. And I've tried different brand media ( although what I have was working before). So what would be the logical conclusion or next step to troubleshoot? |

Sounds like poor quality media. And there's a lot of poor quality media out there. Does your burner have a self-test or diagnostic mode? That would be the least expensive fishing trip. Next after, I'd suggest checking your freshly burned media for PI/PO errors (dvd), or C1/C2 erros (cd). There's a lot of good info and discussion on media quality, burner-media compatibility, error-checking software and other bs here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/ You'll especially be interested in the "blank media" forum and its sub-fora. |

Sorry, I must have misunderstood your original post. You have samplitude and/or Nero on the other machine, and they burn and verify without error using the same media stock, correct? In that case, could still be media, though less likely. I would still definitely recommend looking into checking your burned media, just to eliminate the media from being the cause. Next suggestion would be to check your ram. http://www.memtest.org/ Do your burners have burn-proof technology, or do you occasionally get buffer-underruns for no apparent reason? Is this machine networked? |
