Thread Starter | Allenstein PC on DUC- $600 alternative?
I'm jumping ship! I've just gone native from MIX3 to 002 and want to get a PC to run it. I've been using a G4 1.25 for the last couple of years. I don't know crap about PC's, though we use them at my day job and it seems there's a bit of power to be had (I've yet to hit the wall, and the machines are at least a year old, AMD 64 3200+ 2.2, 1 GB RAM. Digi 001) I've been checking out the DUC thread on the "Allenstein" machine and see the $600 alternative. Do you think the cheaper alternative would be enough to run PT7 with reason and DFHS all at once and be able to do a no holds barred mix if I max out the RAM, (I plan on using outboard reverb) or should I save the extra and go all out Allenstein? What differences would there be between the two machines? As I said, I know squat about PC's and it's all just numbers to me, I just want to mix and not think about that stuff and the machines at work seem to do the job just fine, I don't need much more power than that. Thanks heaps Rick

i would go dual core. better lower latency when using your drums. the price differance is not that big. Scott ADK |

You're going to want around 2gigs of ram if you're piling on the software instruments. I had to jump from 1gig to 2gigs when I started using BFD and Reason together. start adding processing and it can be pretty taxing.

Remember that with PC's, you can keep upgrading. So you could spend $600 now and upgrade when needed or spend $1200 and upgrade 'a little later' when needed. I'm in the process of buying parts for my/Allenstein computer. I'm going dual core with an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ processor and at least 2 gigs of RAM. |

The Allenstein is a great choice. As said, throw in whatever AMD 3500+ core now, and go dual when you can afford it. Buy fast memory. If you choose an ASUS main board, you can find the fastest matching memory on the ASUS site. /D
