CPU Asio load

Hello!!!

Since I got my i7 2600 I never looked at cpu load in S1 Pro, but I noticed one thing. I am currently working on a new track and my cpu load is at around 45%, but when I look at win cpu resource monitor it says my cpu load is only 11 to 13%. Than I downloaded some other 3rd party monitor and that says also that cpu load is around 13%.

I checked S1 Pro audio options, uses all 8 cores. I have latest Mackie Onyx BlackJack drivers running at 128 buffer size @ 44.11 khz. Win 7 74bit are up to date, clean registry and defragmented drives. I have 8 gb of ram and 5.5 are free. Than I switched to Asio4All drivers and cpu load stayed same.

I mean there are no clicks/pops/unwanted distortion, everything works normal, but I want to know why such difference in cpu load in S1 Pro and win monitor and that 3rd party monitor?

Thx!!!

Hello!!!

When your sequencer shows you the cpu load, that is not an actual reflection of the actual cpu.

Try raising your buffer from 128, to something higher, say 384 or 512. Your sequencer should then report a lower cpu load, and you will also get rid of your pops and crackles. If some pops and crackles remain, raise your buffer a little higher.

Cheers.

They measure something different. The S1 meter measures the total performance of all resources it uses, including the audio interface driver.

So, probably ASIO drivers is the part I load the most than? Maybe better coded drivers would lower the cpu load?

No, it is about all resources. It is normal. Don't worry about it.
