Thread Starter | Best plugins to sit well a TRILLIAN bass ?
Hi all ! I just got the sprectrasonics trillian bass ( which is awesome!). But now I would to know what are the best plugin to sit well this bass (I use the most of the time the rock bass or the 60's bass (epiphone bass, the one use by Paul McCartney), well picked bass only. I do indie rock music like arctic monkeys (the two first records) Any help would greatly appreciated.. Cheers ! |

Well first off I'd recommend you try using the plugin rack in Trillian itself. The Spectrasonics instruments come with some amazing plugins built right in. There are amp sims, tape sims, compressors, etc. pretty much everything you need and the benefit of using the built-in ones is you can save your favorite combinations in a patch in Trillian that you can call up in any project. But if you can't find what you want there I've found that sknote Roundtone works well for tape warmth and I like the to use the highpass filter combined with the FAT switch and a little overdrive in Sonimus satson to dial it into the mix. But for the most part, the bass sounds in Trillian don't need any help as they are already tweaked to perfection. |

The only thing I usually use is some eq and compression outside of Trilian. Most of these patches have an over abundance of low end that needs to be dealt with and I like using a compressor where I can see the gain reduction meter. But, as the previous poster stated, it comes with all this stuff an is pretty processed already.

I also love Trilian and I use it quite a lot, however, I mostly use Studio Bass or hardcore bass and I find that it is quite hard to make them sit on a mix. There is a huge amount of low end so you definitely need a high pass filter straight away. Also in some basses a steep cut in 200-220hz would help. Sometimes I also use a low pass filter to smooth out the very top end. That said, although Trilian is way more realistic, I find that in some projects the Mega basses from Motif Es sit in the mix so easily almost without any eq or compression. I don't know what Yamaha has done but they always feet nicely in a mix and the bass end sounds full, punchy and without mud. To achieve that with Trilian you have to work hard... |

Tape emulator Nomad Magnetic has some presets that are specifically targeted towards Trillian. I haven't tried these presets yet, but I often use Magnetic to put some character (dirt) on Virtual Instruments that sound a little too perfect. |
