So has anyone here received their modded 002 back and have any comments. I'm scheduled for early May, so I would imagine a few have seen it back to their owners by now.

Thanks,
Bob

Bobmaus,
I sent my 002 in BLA pretty much the day he added it to the list of mods, and was lucky enough to schedule April 11th cos' of a cancellation date...As far as I know, at least on this forum/thread, it looks like I'll be the 1st, or one of, to get it back...not completely sure though. Appears as so...

I actually got an email Wed. concerning the progress, which was really nice...the analog stages are completely done, the new clock is in final testing, most likely done at this point, and they were waiting on a fresh batch of the AK5393 converter chips' arrival midweek(could already have them by now).

My 002 probably could've been back by now, or on it's way, but I opted for the new internal clock design, which was newly introduced as an option while he had my 002. So, since I opted for that, I accepted that that would take a little more time than just analog stages/converter upgrade...worth the wait for me.

That's all the news I have for now, promise to inform upon return...It seems as though relatively soon...

Thanks commaKaze,

I guess the chips have been the major hangup on anyone getting theirs back. I'm scheduled for May 4th and also getting the clock upgrade. Hopefully all parts will be in abundance.

Where's the audio comparison for the 002 on the Black Lion site? I went to the "audio" section and all I saw were motu traveller comparisons.

2 Things...

Matt from Black Lion shot me an email Wednesday saying he did score the AK5393 chips, and they're in transit as we speak...most likely on his bench in the next few days...

The A/B samples for the stock 002 and Black Lion 002 will be posted on the website alongside the MOTU samples not long after the chips arrive...standby...very soon

Updates for Inquiring Minds: Batboy finishes new Guns N' Roses Album!

Hey All,
Matt@BLA shot me a "progress" email, and is finishing the work, and final testing the clock for my 002. The analog stages were done almost immediately, the A/D chips took a bit to arrive, but he got those and they've been installed. He's basically wrapping up the job on my 002. It would have well been back to me had I not opted for the new clock design, which was still in prototype. AK5393 chips aren't a problem.

He even said it will ship to me before the weekend, meaning I'll probably have it in hands early to mid next week.

Be back for more updates and sharing...

Peace in the Northeast!

Black Lion 002 Arrives Tuesday!!!

OK Update:
My 002 with the full mod including new clock is in the bowels of FedEx as we speak, and is to be delivered to me Tuesday afternoon...no doubt I know what I'll be doing all evening...It may take a few days, but I'll be sure to post and feel free to prod and pry...Damn I wish it were Monday night!

BTW, the BLA site has been updated with a full explanation as to how the new clock is designed, and an updated price list as well for those who wanted to know.

Talk to ya,
Mr. TTT

are you going to be using another 002 without the mod for A/B comparison? if you weren't planning on doing that...could you get a hold of another 002 from someone in your area to do a really good solid comparison?

Now that's something my mum would be so proud of!!!

That's exactly what I plan to do fella's. I actually just got home from the studio playing with it, and was having trouble bouncing stuff down(PTLE 7{glitchy} G5), but I was also quite time restricted...

I can tell you this, from what we've gathered thus far, it truly is an incredible difference. Not even just price/performace ratio...it's really altogether a different device. All I had time for was playing around with a Larrivee acoustic and SP C4s.

Those pres are sick...the stock 002 pres are like wet cardboard in comparison. SO FLAT. Easily, distinguishably much improved. So much more harmonic, and open.

Also, the D/A IS very much improved by Matt's revamping of the analog path...there was a sudden audible haze that came through the monitors everytime I went back to the stock 002 from the BLA 002...the mod is pin-drop silent. Upon setting up, honestly I thought the mic cable was disconnected or phantom power wasn't on, until I walked out of the control room and into the live room and talked into the mic. It's vastly improved. I know a bunch of you were concerned/interested in that. The answer is YES.

I wish I had more, but as I said, I had time restrictions, and you know how time flies when working, nevermind alone and running back and forth unplugging and replugging and yada yada yada. I have a fully booked, A/B only session tomorrow afternoon into the night which is solely dedicated to sussing this thing out and having files for y'all to hear.

From the wee modicum of time I had to play, I and my studio bro'(he popped in as I was leaving) were like WTF...and we've been using Mytek 8x96s in front of the other stock 002, so we're down with nice sounding stuff.

Once again, stay tuned...

Hey Ronster...just to clarify, it's not fair to say better than the Myteks...remember I only A/B'd the stock 002 with the black lion 002, and on very limited time at that, and not with the Myteks.

Old Man Mytek makes a killer box. All I was saying is that since I've been using the Mytek 8x96 in front of the stock 002, I am used to hearing nice quality conversion/clocking.

FWIW, I'm NOT against the fact that the BLA 002 could sound better/as good as/whatever than the Myteks in front of the stock 002...I just haven't had enough time playing around yet to come to that conclusion, and want to be clear and concise about this.

However, I will say though, my first impressions of the black lion 002 are WOW+.

Those in line will be stoked...others with an off the shelf 002 take a ticket. You'll be glad you did...

I'm heading to the studio in a little while to have much more fun with it, and I will have much more to say, and most likely A/B files for ya'll to hear.

I'll be back for more...later y'all
