This may be a ridiculous question and I know I'm gonna get hammered for asking it. How come on things such as apple products, some pc software, video game systems upgrades are free for life and you can even have unlimited access to the product. But bigger things like daws, most plugins, os's all require you to pay in some form. Is there any reasoning behind this other than marketing. Just irritating to pay "dues" when something gets better.

video game sequels come out all the time. Look at all the generic first-person shooters. Just like plugin updates. Modern Warfare Firmware 2.1.2, etc.
