Mac pro Ram

Hi there, i recently bought i new mac pro i ended up buying a quad instead of an 8 core as i will never max out those cores as it is.

It came with 3GB of ddr3 ram installed, but i want to upgrade it to 8gb, now im familiar with upgrading pc ram and understand its the same when changing mac ram, but i read somewhere that this 3gb configuration is triple channel mode which is faster than dual channel.

what i was going to do before i read that was...
buy 8gb of ddr3 ram and replace the original 3gb with the 8gb, but this would mean im running in only dual channel mode. does this matter?

thanks for any help

OWC is a great source for ram, site gives great info & prices. If you want to talk to a tech or sales person they are great to deal with as well.
Look in memory section.

I just had a problem with a Mac Pro that I bought used...4 gigs of owc ram failed...called them up to buy some more and they said send us the bad ram and we'll just replace it. Super service. I bought an extra 8 gigs I was so impressed by their replacement policy.

Ive used RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, SSD at Crucial.com. Never had a problem. Just put mine up to 14 GB now in my MacPro OWC is great as well.

Question...

Is it true that 32 bit programs only recognize 4 GB of RAM? So any thing more than 4 is a waste?

yes it is. but 64 bit computer architecture means that the individual program ie..pro tools le (which is 32bit) can utilise its 4gb and the other 2gb can be used elsewhere. (assuming that you have 6gb of ram in the example)
