Syncing two Macs via 'Network' (without midi)

My friend told me about how he came across a site that shows how to setup two Macs to wirelessly sync to each other using the 'Network'. So we are trying to setup two Macs to sync Logic and Ableton Live so we can have them play/sync simultaneously without using midi. For some reason we can't get our programs to sync. For example, i want to be able to press play in Logic and it plays his Live at the same time. We joined each other's Network and we thought we had it synced, but it doesn't work.

Anyone have any idea of how this works?

I am not aware of any sync protocol for 2 or more systems that doesn't involve timecode as audio or MIDI, with VST System Link and Avid Satellite being the slickest methods.

even though you have them networked together you still need to use MTC to sync the transports. One is master, the other is slaved to the MTC thats coming across the network. What site are you talking about BTW?

If you use MTC make sure to clock both systems properly (wordclock or any digital audio connection).

Syncing two Macs via 'Network' (without midi)

Hello
Works great we use it regularly.

In the network window of AMS have the two machines joined the Network Session? If not that's another discussion.

If they -have- both joined then in Logic you need to squirt mtc out the Network Session ( a virtual midi port ) and in Live you must set it's sync input to the Network Session port.
I don't know how to do that in either program but once you figure it out it works great.

I was looking at this: Mac OS X Tiger: A Musician's Guide

I haven't tried everything this talks about, but it seems like it might be possible to send midi without a midi cable.

Unhappy networking 2 macs for midi

Hello. I was experimenting with my G5 tower OS 10.4.11 and my macbook OS 10.6.8.

Doing a littlie research about syncronizing to take advantage of the great virtual synths I have on my macbook, came to find out that I can synchronize them thru a wireless network! This is great! But after trying for an hour and even reading a step by step pdf file I found on the internet, it did not work!

I keep getting ""refused to connect" prompt in the midi studio setup window :(

Can anyone please help me and maybe figure out what I'm doing wrong please!!!!
Thanks in advance for any help

setup:
G5 - Prootols 6.9.2 HD2 accel
macbook - Protools HD9
