I hope Peterson makes a VST/DX version soon where you can use it as a plugin.

The current product is totally useless for me. I don't want to quit my DAW to tune the guitar.

StroboSoft has to be fully integrated into the DAW.

Just a thought.....

Let me start this off by agreeing with you...100%

Until I came aboard Peterson to handle StroboSoft (before the launch of the software), the initial idea for StroboSoft was to gear it towards the backline techs and luthiers. They studio element was also taken into consideration but greatly under-estimated.

As the product became more recognized among the studio circles, the need for a plug-in was echo'd. Now, it wasn't just me saying it anymore! So I am happy to report that the VST will be on its way shortly to my studio friends.

The use of a VST eliminates the worrying about sound card compatibility and having a host that doesn't play nice with the tuner. Latency....not a big deal since it is not a real-time processor but very low in any case currently.

However.....

Unless you are using ProTools or Motu (driver issues currently, being worked out), the stand alone is very functional inside your DAW.

If you are using ASIO, make sure you have the option to release ASIO in the background enabled when tuning to avoid ASIO duplexing errors.

Soft will work with many DAWs even though not a plug-in. Just select your input channel. It is light on your processor as well. It will release its inputs to your DAW when minimized or not the "active" screen on your computer. No need to repatch your guitar/bass input. As long as Soft can "see" the input channel of your guitar, it can share the input with your DAW.

We have several thousand users tuning happily on stage and in the studio in its current form. The plug-in will hopefully help us become the industry standard for software tuners.

Here is a post that may clear up some mis-conceptions:

The VST version is good news!

I can't release ASIO in the background because I use other programs in combination with Nuendo (Ableton, Acid Pro, etc).

I need Nuendo to play in the background.

The problem right now is, no drivers for 3rd party audio interfaces.
So, most are stuck using the input of the built-in soundcard.

Strobosoft is badass, and probably the best $50 I ever spent. Anybody who can do this, should.

I use asio drivers in both Sam and the Peterson and they work fine together.

There are macintel drivers for some RME stuff like the Fireface.

BTW, is it going to be a free upgrade for the VST function when released? If so, I'll buy and download now - it'll help me keep my Moog in tune.

Hey guys just wanted to comment on the VST version briefly...

The VST and AU (when available) will be a separate product from our stand-alone versions of StroboSoft. There will be a discount to current stand-alone users but it will not be a free upgrade.

Both the VST and AU will be available on-line. The VST will be first however.

On the Intel Mac side, the upgrade for current Mac users to this version will be free.

As more news on the plug-ins becomes available, I will post it.

Feel free to contact me at mlj@petersontuners.com with any questions that require an immediate response as I don't check the forums that often.

Best, MJ
