Thread Starter | PT9.0.3 corrupt audio files
Hi, I just had an scary experience on an mobile recording. I'm just recording an orchestra for an production. I'm recording about 10 tracks. When I have the PT project open everything is recorded and playable. Yesterday I closed the project and reloaded it and some files are missing. They are still in the audio folder but have a different icon and cant be played in the finder, and also quicktime don't play them. It seems that it happened while saving or closing the project. What I did today was: before closing the project I looked in the audio files folder and found again some wav's with a different icon. I then exported the still playing file within PT from the regions box. This time the exported file is fine and safe. After closing the project and opening again, as expected PT is missing these audio files... Thank god PT could record different tracks with same input. So I duplicated all tracks and record double, just to minimise loosing takes ... Any ideas ? And any ideas how I could try to repair the WAVs ? File size is still 48,6MB like the other takes. Tried to import into Logic, but it has only fullscale noise on it... wolfgang

Just installed this on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop for mobile work as well. Are you MAC or 32 bit? I know MACs can have problems with some files being corrupted at times. That's more rare in PCs. Not to start debates on MAC/PC. It would be good to see if that plays a role in your problem to try to isolate it. I've not recorded in it yet, so I will be following this. |

| http://www.railjonrogut.com/downloads/WavFixer.dmg.zip This will fix the WAV files which have lost their FMT chunk. You may select multiple files and need to tell the program the sample rate and resolution of the files. It will create a copy of the bad file and then repair the copy - it will not allow the source and destination folders to be the same. Rail

My recommendation is to build your platform around a different DAW software, this software is NOT at the quality level of a pro recording context, maybe 9.1 would be OK, don't know, all I know is that the early 9 versions of this software were a disaster: You need to have bla-bla, but you can't have that if you have bla-bla. And if you're running this on Windows 7 it can't work really bla bla, so you need Mac Pro bla bla, what MIDI interface are you using, no that won't work because bla bla. Arghhhhhhhhhhhh!

that was my first reaction when I shockingly found the disaster...... Crappy stoneage software, I told it since years ;-) ..... Never had such thing with DP or Logic. But clients demand PT all the time, especialy the producer of that recent project. So we are serving clients not educating them ;-) However I think that there must be a solution to it. And I must say I recorded beginning of this year two album production in PT and never had that, worked great so far. This was with the early 9.0 version. I just updated to 9.0.3 this week for the recent production. Maybe it's the combination of 9.0.3 and something else on the OSX ..... wolfgang

Just a follow up for the ones having the same problem... The program from Rail worked perfect. Thanks again... Still haven't found why and PT did it again on all 4 session days, with new PT sessions each day. Always with files on track 1 labled "schoeps_l" (the main stereos) but think that's pure chance I guess. cheers, wolfgang |

Rail, you just saved my life. I lost an entire song's worth of lead vocals to the same error today. That program fixed it, thank you!

You're welcome. If possible, please post to this thread on the DUC and list your system details and any info on what you were doing when this happened: corrupt audio files PT 8.0.3 - Avid Audio Forums Cheers, Rail |

Rail (or anyone else)... this problem has cropped up this week on my system. I've literally done thousands of sessions without issues. Nothing on my setup has changed... but now every session I open (old or new) is sprouting this file corruption. Over a dozen bands this week had the "Where's my lead gtr?" freakout. Not cool. Does anyone know what might be causing it? Or how to fix it? I've done the usual (rep permissions, reinstall, trash databases/prefs, new drive, etc). |
