I need an audio/video capture card for Windows
any suggestions? should I go fw? usb? pci based?
any concerns I should have?

to capture what ?

you can capture regular 720x480 30fps video from a $30 usb capture device

all the way up to professional units that captures hd, etc

it would be VHS so I would s 720X480 30fps would be enough
or is it?

Just be careful. I assumed a low end interface would work and found that they threw away frames. I got burnt and that made my first inexpensive investment a total waste of money. Talk to some video guys.

720 by 480 is more than enough for VHS. I don't have a lot of experience with consumer capture cards, but I have never had a bad experience with black magic cards. I think they have some inexpensive models now...

Is USB 3.0 okay? Also do you have any video editing software?

I have customers that needed help with VHS to DVD transfers and I bought this:

ADVC55 | Grass Valley

I'm very satisfied.

get the intensity or Shuttle(first USB video device to actually work great) from Decklink/BM

both are $179

Yep. Check the info page.

This is the best option I see out there for consumers/prosumers. I use their high end stuff (with some AJA stuff as well) and must say black magic is nothing short of excellent...

We use BM here as well, both Intensity and Decklink. Trouble free. Note that if you use Quicktime you can't use 64 bit apps (like Nuendo64).
