Best analog drum synthesizer plug?

I am looking for an analog style drum machine/synthesizer for my DAW. Currently I am using Sylenth1 to make my cymbols and snares, and using samples for kicks. I have tried making kicks in sylenth, but they are not that great in my opinion.

Can anyone advise me on a plug? Maybe a good TR emulation, or a plug specifically designed for percussion. I would rather go down the route of synthesis as opposed to samples in FXpansion or NI.

I have seen some people here mention Stylus by Spectrasonics. By the way they were talking about it, I presumed it was synthesis. But after looking at the website it just looks like a sampler. It says it comes with presets and a 7GB library. I tried to look for a trial version, but couldn't see one.

Stylus is, well, hard to describe really. It's more or less a REX loop player, but with MASSIVE potential for tweaking and arranging/processing the loops on the fly...

µTonic

Sonic Charge - µTonic

Great Synthesis based drum machine style plug-in. Endless possibilities for creating great sounding Drum/Perc. sounds. Punchy, Organic, and Unique.

The only negative point is that it is not yet 64-bit for neither Mac OSX or PC-Windows 7. Hopefully it will be upgraded in the near future to 64-bit !

Punch looks good. I'll have to check it out.

In logic, ultrabeat is better than most 3rd party stuff I've tried.

Starting with samples from existing machines and tweaking them can be a good way to go too.

I'm getting great results now doing ultrabeat through rocket comp to get transients right, then nebula to process and get the color I want out of it... then resampling and loading into battery for triggering.

I'll check that out too.

What's the moog in your avatar? Is that an actual unit or a rendering for a plug? don't think I've seen that particular one.

Not the best, but check out Drumatic 3...it's free.

...makes a nice range of sounds, especially kick drums for certain types of music.

I really want to trial Waldorf Attack, but I am finding it very difficult to find. On the Waldorf Gropu page you can download a MAC trial version - but this does not work for me. It has a '.sit' file extention, and when I open it on my macbook pro it just comes up as a load of coded text.

Downloaded Drumazon and Punch. I like drumazon however, not so much the sound of Punch. Is it just me, or does Rob Papens stuff sound a bit muffled/boxy - I also found this with Albino.

A plug like drumazon but with the edit parameters of utonic or punch would be cool.

No, Punch sounds nice and punchy to me! I haven't used d16s drum machines for a while so i'll have to give it a listen.

I really like d16. Adding a bit of waves mpx tape sat and sound toys decapitator. Can have total control over the kit, and tune it to your mix.

uTonic is on my to buy list... as well as Punch really great sounding drum synths.

For now I use Nerve with different sample packs (ones bundled with Nerve, Wave Alchemy and Driven Machine Drums) but recently for some real drum machine feel I use the a 909 kontakt library (Sounds Outside the Lines) and it's fantastic to be able to have a 909 ITB.

Really punchy and there's going to be a 808 out soon enough.

I tried the D16 drum machines and the sound was good... but that interface (pattern programming) was a bit weird and didn't gel with them.

Although I love Decimort on the drum bus and their other plugins are cool..

AudioRealisms ADM Drum Machine is good for the TR thing.
Perhaps not the best all round software Drum Machine though.. But I like it, and got it in a deal with ABL2 (the soft 303 clone)
