Couple Questions - Any help is appreciated - Pro Tools

1. I have a Digi 002 Rack - 8 Inputs. I also have a Board with 16 channels. Is there some way to set up 10 Mics IE have 2 Mics on a snare drum and then Bus them together somehow into 1 input. (Please be detailed in explaining this)

2. I am running Pro tools 7 but I also work on a computer that has PT 6.4 is there a way to open my PT 7 files on 6.4

Thanks a lot.

To give an exact answer, we need to know what the specs of the desk are; does it have direct outs? Does it have more than just a stereo buss?

6.4 won't open 7 sessions AFAIK.

You have to do a "save as" in a 6.4 compatible session type to go from 7 to 6.4.

The Digi 002 has 18 inputs. You can send the output of each mic individualy into Pro Tools.

The 002 has potentialy 18 inputs. It has 8 you can access without the need for an extra I/O via lightpipe.
If you want to record 2 mics to 1 track you will need to send the 2 mixer channels to a group output on your console and conect that output to a line input on your 002.

If your going to need 10 preamps regularly, get yourself a Digimax LT or 96. You'll get access to the other 8 inputs on your OO2 and you get comparable converters to the Digi Pre's and I/O. You can likely do it with the board, but why if you don't have to. Got any other 8 channel ADAT A/D lying around?

If you're talking about using a top and bottom snare mic, I think it's a better idea to focus on getting the top mic to sound good. I don't end up using the bottom snare mic about 99% of the time, and if you record it that way, there's no going back.

But you'd need an aux out for the snare mics if you're doing it this way. If it's aux 1, you'd send as much of each as you want to aux 1 and then take the aux 1 output from the mixer into one of the inputs on the 002.

Ah makes sense. I'm thinking this actually might be for the Bass Drum more than anything. But i dunno currently we have mics on the Toms (floor and rack) one on the snare (57) 2 condensers for overheads, a sm57 on the hi-hat and one inside the bass drum. we might want to put a SM57 on the bass drum as well.
