Are there any good software synths out there?

I'm talking subtractive synthesis of the classic analogue variety...

I need something that sounds good (oddity does not to me but some arturia stuff does) ...has a least one LFO retriggerable by keyboard and a good GUI (preferably not an old skool clone look)

...is there one out there? Any thoughts greatly appreciated

many thanks

I don't know what subtractive synthesis is or exactly how to use a retriggerable LFO but this guy seeems to get some pretty serious props from the electronic crowd:

Alphakanal - Automat

And it's free...

Mac OSX only though.

You may want to look at the minimonsta, impOSCar and the Wayoutware ARP2600.
