New Dual Core vs. Dual 2.7 Refurb

hi all,

For whomever is on at the moment: Any feelings about buying a refurb G5 from Apple? There are some Dual 2.7's w/ PCI slots available which will save me from having to do an interface upgrade at the same time as buying the computer, which I would otherwise have to do if I bought a Dual Core. But are there any advantages that you know of with the new Dual Core systems?

Anyone have any experience here?

Thanks.

A note on refurbs, thought that's not really what you're asking...

My current aging MDD G4 Dual 1.25 is a refurb that I got a pretty decent deal on because it had been back to the factory for whatever reason. It's never given me an issue. I say save a few bucks.

And my uninformed opinion on the 2.7 vs Dual Core... depends what you're using with it. Native? Dual Core. ProTools? 2.7. But heck, what do I know, I've got a G4.

I've bought several refurbs from Apple, including the following:

Dual 2gig 1st generation G5
Powerbook G4 867MHz
iMac G5 1.8gig
Various Airport wireless accessories

I've never had a problem with any of it. I will recommend buying refurbs through smalldog.com if available, since they'll save you sales tax and shipping, and they're the same Apple factory refurbs as Apple shucks on their store.

I'm considering buying a refurb'd outgoing 15" G4 powerbook in the near future, since while the whole macintel thing's gonna be way fast, I don't do audio on my laptop so I'd rather stick in the g4 realm and not have to upgrade all my office/graphics/etc. software. I'll be damned if I'm gonna "go Universal" so soon after upgrading all this crap to OSX. Just consider me frozen in amber...
